This time last year our crews from across Queensland were in the thick of the power restoration effort after Tropical Cyclone Kirrily, including disaster response veteran Barry Fitzgerald. In this video he explains the lengths we go to whenever severe weather strikes - and why it pays to be prepared for anything over summer. #GetReadyQueensland #cyclones #floods #electricity #customers #community #disasterresponse
About us
Ergon Energy supplies electricity to 746,000 customers across a vast operating area of more than one million square kilometres – around 97% of the state of Queensland – from the expanding coastal and rural population centres to remote communities in outback Queensland and the Torres Strait. We are all about providing safe, reliable, efficient and sustainable energy solutions to support our customers and the Queensland economy. Ergon Energy was formed in 1999 by the Queensland Government from its regional Queensland electricity distributors and their subsidiary retailer. In 2016, we merged with Energex Limited under the newly formed entity Energy Queensland. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians and pay our respect to all Elders past, present and emerging on whose land we walk, work and live on, and their continuing connection to land, sea and community. Australia Day means different things to different people, yet we’re all united by our collective strengths, diversity and achievements. And we’re so proud to see the amazing contributions of our own people recognised in the Australia Day honours – people like Josh Woolfe. 🙌 In his day job, Josh is part of our team that designs transmission lines. Outside of work, and whenever duty calls, he’s the First Officer with Saunders Beach Rural Fire Service. That means long hours in the air as an observer flying over fires and reporting back to the incident management team; a critical role which has today been recognised with an Australia Day Award. It’s a skillset which also translates seamlessly to his day job – he’s racked up solid air miles doing aerial damage assessments of the electricity network after disasters, including cyclones Jasper and Kirrily. “I’ve been volunteering for the Rural Fire Service for 13 years and we do it for our community not for the accolades, but it’s nice to be recognised in this way,” Josh said. “To be able to help my mates on the fire ground with intel from the air is really rewarding and I’d encourage anyone who wants to be part of the Rural Fire Service to sign up because we always need more volunteers right across Queensland.” Josh was also among a group of 22 Rural Fire Service vollies who received the National Emergency Medal in the Australia Day Achievement awards this week, recognising their immense efforts to the community during the 2019-2020 fire season – that’s our Josh pictured front and centre in the light blue shirt ☺ Kudos to Josh, and all the other mostly unsung heroes who contribute so much to Australia’s incredibly diverse communities. Wherever you are in our beautiful state, there’s an Australia Day event happening near you: https://lnkd.in/gMyimBV9 #australiaday2025 #communityservice #ruralfireservice #volunteering

In a disaster, you'll see Qld's amazing SES volunteers slogging it out alongside our crews; clearing debris so that we can get the power back on safely, and sooner. So, it's only fitting that we continue to make sure the Orange Angels have the equipment they need to do this critical work. This latest $300k equipment contribution from us, Energex and Powerlink Queensland, is part of our decade-long Energising Queensland partnership - thank you, SES 🙌
Today we launched the 2024-25 Energising Queensland SES Equipment Program alongside our partners Energex and Ergon Energy Network as part of Energy Queensland, and Powerlink Queensland. The $300,000 sponsorship provided by the State-owned energy companies will buy vital equipment for SES groups throughout the state. Now in its tenth year, the partnership has provided over $1.5 million worth of equipment benefitting the more than 5000 volunteers who dedicate their time to the SES. Thank you to our partners for a decade of helping Queenslanders, together! 💪🔌

What does take to make a great apprentice? Sure, aptitude + attitude are critical; but these need to be backed up by world-class training from passionate, experienced trainers dedicated to shaping the next generation of electrical tradies. As we gear up to welcome a record number of new starters in just a few weeks, here's why Raj, one of our awesome apprentice trainers, reckons he's got the best job in the world 🙌 https://bit.ly/4h8fUDC #apprenticeships #tradecareers #energytrades #qldjobs
Ever wondered what it would be like to be a Technical Trainer Specialist with us?

This is what we call community spirit! Our crew at Julia Creek in Outback Queensland will once again spend their Christmas morning making some special deliveries to help local kids stay cool. These are the same people the community can rely on to get the power back on after a storm, bushfire or flood. We take our Santa hats off to them. #communityspirit #locallegends #JuliaCreek

Teamwork makes the dream work! Thanks to our partners at DOOMADGEE ABORIGINAL SHIRE COUNCIL, civil works at the community’s solar farm site are complete. Joining the Council crew at the site was a wildlife expert, pictured below with a frill neck lizard that was relocated to nearby bushland. Caring for country and cultural heritage is part of our commitment to communities across Queensland. Civil works have paved the way for construction of a new larger solar farm to commence in the dry season. When it’s commissioned, it will further reduce the remote community’s reliance on diesel generation as they draw more than half of their power needs from the sun. This is a fascinating look at what goes into scoping projects; in this case, under the crystal-clear blue waters of Torres Strait.
Last month the Reef Ecologic team ventured to the Torres Strait for a project working with Ergon Energy Network to provide a baseline survey of the benthic habitat between Horn, Thursday and Hammond Islands. Due to the waters being too unsafe to dive, we used a number of survey methods to collect the data. These include using an underwater drop camera, video tows, drone surveys and intertidal quadrat surveys at low tide. Here is a short video of some of the methods we used, as well as a nosey visitor towards the end! 🦈 Overall it was an amazing trip and was great to experience the beauty and culture of these wonderful islands.
