  • 🎉 Today, former Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein completed "𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗸, 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿" arriving at Parliament House in Canberra after an inspiring journey from Launceston. His walk aimed to raise awareness of the economic and social importance of cultural diversity, emphasising that we are truly better together. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗘𝗢, Mary Ann was there to welcome him and discuss the vital contributions that Australians from migrant and refugee backgrounds make to our society—from health and education to agriculture and technology. 👉🏽 The conversation continues at the 𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗖𝗔 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 next week. John-Paul (JP) is a proud Gold Coast local. Elected as the Member for Surfers Paradise in 2004, he was also the Education Minister in the LNP Government prior to the 2015 election and the 33rd Queensland Leader of the Opposition. JP ran for Parliament to advocate for the people of Surfers Paradise and the Gold Coast.   • 📣 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁: 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻, 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 & 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗔 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆, 𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝘅𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 (𝗧𝗘𝗖𝗦 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁). Violence against women and children is a universal issue that affects all communities across all cultures. Preventing this violence requires a collective effort to shift societal beliefs and behaviours. However, a one-size-fits-all approach is ineffective. 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 Department of Social Services (DSS), SSI 𝗮𝗻𝗱 FECCA (Federation of Ethnic Communities' Councils of Australia), the national TECS Project aims to collaborate with Faith and Community Leaders and individuals with lived experience to co-design a culturally appropriate training package and resources. 𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿: - community or faith leaders, - victim-survivors from a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background, - community or faith organisations representing CALD communities, - organisations (research, peak body, or advocacy) with expertise in Family, Domestic, and Sexual Violence (FDSV), or - service providers (family/ domestic violence, health, women’s health, legal) who are interested in participating in Community Conversations on Family, Domestic, and Sexual Violence.
