Have you ever said to a donor who hasn’t given for a while that “you’re lapsed”. It might not go down too well. Within our organisations we might internally label a donor as “lapsed” for certain fundraising purposes, but it’s really important to understand that donors don’t see themselves that way.     In fact even “deeply lapsed” donors consider themselves as someone who is connected to your cause, has supported your organisation in the past, and with the right approach, may give again, perhaps even with a gift in their will.   This is a lesson that Ross Anderson, FFIA (The Lost Dog’s Home) and Roberta Armitage (Kidney Health Australia) learnt when conducting phone campaigns to nurture and find potential gifts-in-wills donors.   At next week’s Big4 Fundraising Conference (https://lnkd.in/giw5b84U ) Ross and Roberta, along with Darren Musilli (Apple Marketing) will share insights and case studies about how charities need to think outside the box about their donor data when prospecting for gifts-in-wills supporters.   Their presentation will cover:   • How to consider segments of supporters who sit outside the traditionally acknowledged ‘best bequest prospects’ • Factors that have led The Lost Dogs’ Home and Kidney Health Australia to high rates of identifying Gifts in Wills interest amongst segments of supporters (such as deeply lapsed donors and lottery ticket buyers) not normally associated with bequest commitment • How phone campaigns have flow-on benefits that include reactivating regular givers, one-off cash gifts and updating invalid contact details • How phone campaigns can provide an always-on strategy for GIW acquisition • How to train call staff and adapt phone conversations depending on segment and supporter response If you want to see this session at Big4 you’ll need to get your skates on and buy a ticket. The conference is next week in Melbourne.

Does your organisation apply for philanthropic grants? Many charities and nonprofits have an ad hoc approach to applying for grants, often leading to poor or compromised results. But Variety NSW/ACT decided to develop a strategic framework and an implementation plan for their grant-seeking; one that would put them on a new path toward a more sustainable grants program.    Berta Youakim (Variety NSW/ACT) and Craig Hunter (Strategic Grants) will share tips and learnings on how to set up a sustainable grants strategy at the upcoming F&P Big4 Fundraising Conference (https://lnkd.in/giw5b84U ).   Craig and Berta’s presentation will include: * Benchmarking data on grants success rates (and how to use it) * Key success factors for a successful grants program * The most common challenges experienced by grants programs * Best practice tactics to lift your grants program * The elements of a successful grants strategy * Benefits of implementing a central strategy for seeking funding Examples from Variety NSW/ACT's journey to building solid foundations for grants success including how to become grant-ready and how to build the case for why projects are needed will be delivered throughout the session to demonstrate the practical applications of all the key lessons. Whether you’re new to grants or a veteran, this session will leave you with actionable insights and proven strategies for sourcing, nurturing, and securing funding from trusts and foundations.   But get your tix quick smart to Big4. The conference is next week.

Is your gifts-in-wills (GIW) program feeling tired? When you consider a gift from a donor’s will is likely to be the biggest gift they’ll ever make, it makes sense to have great comms to encourage and nurture potential gifts-in-wills supporters.   Donor Republic's Stuart Ghent and Kate Farina are going to share how to breathe new (creative) life into GIW programs at the upcoming F&P Big4 Fundraising Conference (https://lnkd.in/giw5b84U )   They’ll provide you with an invaluable guide to the creative dos and don’ts of fundraising’s most life-affirming gift. Filled with live examples, how-to’s, and templates you can follow, this session will introduce you to: • The psychology of gifts-in-wills • How gifts-in-wills are different to other types of fundraising • The power of the proposition, and how to build a great one • Bringing your proposition to life with brilliant comms So …. if your GIW program is in need of some creative revitalization, make sure you come and see Stuart and Katie’s session at the F&P Big4 Conference.   But be quick and get your tix, Big4 is almost here! • We are excited to announce that Blaze Your Trail is joining the 2024 F&P Big4 as Bursary Partner. Their support has enabled two bursaries for fundraisers from small-to-medium nonprofits to attend Big4 in Melbourne 30 & 31 October. This opportunity is for organisations with limited budgets that struggle to offer their fundraising staff the opportunity to attend conferences. "After speaking at the recent Fundraising Forum in Sydney, Jessica Macpherson OAM was inspired by the outstanding presentations and top-notch speakers. It reminded us of how valuable these experiences are for fundraisers and made us even more committed to supporting our sector. If you’re on the fence about attending this one, we encourage you to take the leap. And if the cost is a concern, consider approaching one of your major donors to cover it. Every dollar invested in developing your fundraising skills comes back to the sector many times over." Applications close this 5pm AEST, Friday 4 October. Find out more and apply here: https://lnkd.in/gfmshVPG Thank you so much to Blaze your Trail for providing this opportunity.
