This is a great outcome for both countries! For example, canola seeds are Australia’s largest agriculture export to the UAE, topping $741 million in 2023. Australian exporters of these products will receive duty-free access from day one of the deal coming into force.

Growing demand for Australian barley in Central and Latin America offers opportunities to diversify markets for Australian growers. As part of a new project with Grains Australia investment, key Australian Export Grains Innovation Centre (AEGIC) personnel will soon visit Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, and Chile, with support from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. Grains Australia and its Pulse Council have recognised the significant contribution made to the pulse industry by trader Peter Semmler, who has recently passed away. Our Pulse Council Chair Peter Wilson has remembered Peter – a long-time member of the former Pulse Australia – as a pulse enthusiast who was generous with his knowledge and will be missed by the many who knew him in Australia and overseas. Sincere condolences to Peter’s family.

This year's Annual delegation to Japan fostered strong discussions between the WA #noodlewheat sector and Japan’s #udon industry, reinforcing both parties’ commitment to ongoing technical exchange and collaboration. Supported by Australian breeding companies, InterGrain and Australian Grain Technologies, the delegation met with Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Japan (MAFF), the Japan Flour Milling Association (JFMA), and Japan’s top flour milling companies. Discussions focused on industry updates, seasonal performance, and the expected uptake of new udon wheat varieties. AEGIC and JFMA reaffirmed dedication to joint efforts in udon sensory evaluation, with a focus on refining the ideal colour requirements for udon #noodles. This will aid Grains Australia in making key wheat classification decisions. Through JFMA's visiting noodle expert program, both sides are building capacity and supporting the development of new udon noodle wheat lines. This partnership continues to strengthen the quality and supply of Australian udon noodle wheat, ensuring sustained success for both industries. https://lnkd.in/grSNi8B4

Food manufacturers and flour millers in the Philippines have expressed strong interest in Australian soft wheat for cookies and cakes, as demand increases across the region. As part of an industry collaboration to revitalise the Australian soft wheat export market, Australian Export Grains Innovation Centre (AEGIC) wheat experts Dr Siem Siah and Dr Ken Quail visited Manila in May to work with large flour and food companies eager to investigate using Australian soft wheat for Philippines-style sweet products. The companies said they were interested in diversifying their soft wheat supply and potentially gaining freight advantages compared with the US, which generally dominates milling wheat exports to the Philippines. The visit was part of AEGIC’s ongoing work to help establish a new soft wheat industry for Australian growers. Over the past year, Grains Australia has achieved significant milestones with strong support from the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) and in collaboration with industry. We integrated Pulse Australia functions, established a Pulse Council and Grains Market Access Council, and developed Australia's first national classification frameworks for lentils and oats. We also strengthened ties with key trading partners like China, India, and Indonesia. Thanks to our stakeholders for helping to make these achievements possible.
