Coming soon, a new iconic Qantas uniform 👀 As we look to the future, we are embarking on a major uniform redesign for all pilots, cabin crew, engineers, lounge, freight, and airport teams. Our people will be at the heart of the redesign, with the next Australian designer to be announced in the coming months, and the new look set to debut in 2027. The new look will form part of our major fleet investments in the coming years, with more than 100 aircraft on order across the Qantas Group over the next decade and significant investments being made in our current fleet.

Our new Engineering Academy opened its doors in Brisbane this week, welcoming the first new intake of apprentices. The Academy will train the next generation of aircraft engineers through an updated training program developed by Qantas and Aviation Australia designed to increase the number of apprentices that can be trained each year. The initial cohort of apprentices training this year will have the opportunity to undertake simulated practical tasks in a controlled environment that mirrors working in a hangar, alongside their theory and classroom training. As part of their training, they will also learn through on-the-job training under the supervision of experienced Qantas engineers. QantasLink have also donated its last Boeing 717 to officially retire (VH-YQW) to the Academy to allow apprentices to do part of their training on a jet aircraft. 📸: Steve Pohlner

We are excited to be relaunching our seasonal Sydney to Sapporo services, offering the only direct flights between Australia and the winter playground of Hokkaido 🇯🇵. The flights, which will commence in December 2025 and run through to March 2026* during Japan's world-famous ski season, will be operated three times a week on our Airbus A330-200 aircraft. Adding Sapporo to our schedule also marks the 100th destination in the Qantas network across Australia and the world. *𝘚𝘶𝘣𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘭.

The NGV is the place to be this summer 🤩 We recently visited the Yayoi Kusama exhibition displayed by our partner, the National Gallery of Victoria, which showcases almost 200 works from the celebrated Japanese artist’s career. Featuring painting, sculpture, collage, fashion, film and installation, the exhibition reveals the astonishing breadth of Kusama’s multidisciplinary practice. The exhibition is open until 𝟮𝟭 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, and tickets can be purchased via the NGV website. 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗼𝗳 𝗬𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗶 𝗞𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗮 𝗮𝘁 𝗡𝗚𝗩 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹, 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲. © 𝗬𝗔𝗬𝗢𝗜 𝗞𝗨𝗦𝗔𝗠𝗔

Today marks 50 years since we landed a Boeing 747 in Darwin to support the evacuation of residents following the devastation of Cyclone Tracy. The severe category-four cyclone tore through the Northern Territory capital in the early hours of Christmas Day in 1974, killing 66 people and destroying more than 80 per cent of its homes and buildings. Qantas operated multiple evacuation flights in the days after the cyclone, including two Boeing 747 flights with 673 and 674 people onboard respectively - the latter of which was a world record at the time for most people carried on the aircraft type. Pilot Donn Howe, who flew the first empty jumbo from Sydney into Darwin for the mercy mission, recalled that the strips of runway lights at the airport were the only lights left working in the city. In total, Qantas evacuated 4,925 residents from the city in the following days on Boeing 707 and 747 aircraft. Alongside the Royal Australian Air Force and US Air Force, as well as Ansett, Trans Australia Airlines and MacRobertson Miller Airlines, it remains the largest airlift operation in Australian history. Our thoughts are with all of those who were impacted by Cyclone Tracy.

Our Qantas Freight team are gearing up for a busy Christmas and have unveiled a special 'Santa's Freight' aircraft to help deliver more than 50,000 tonnes of international and domestic freight over the festive season. Qantas Freight will boost its operation by flying around 550 additional hours across the domestic network in November and December to get gifts under trees and ingredients on tables in time for Christmas. On the busiest days leading up to Christmas, across the global network, Qantas Freight will carry around one million kilograms of cargo per day, which is around 70 per cent more than its usual daily uplift. Keep an eye out for Santa's Freight coming to an airport near you!
