🌟 Thank You to All Who Joined the Federation of Canteens in Schools National Roundtable! 🌟 A heartfelt thank you to all the dedicated participants who contributed to the Federation of Canteens in Schools National Roundtable! Your engagement and passion for supporting local school canteens and the communities they operate in were truly inspiring. This roundtable brought together over 90 attendees from across the sector, including representatives from canteens, local government councils, health and education, community organisations, NGOs and the private sector. The diverse participation highlighted the critical role school canteens play in nurturing the wellbeing of our children. The discussions were rich, collaborative, and focused on tackling the challenges faced by school canteens. We are excited to announce that we will draft a National Consensus Statement to reflect the collective insights and recommendations from the roundtable. This statement will be presented to policymakers and shared widely through a targeted media campaign to amplify the voice of school canteens and advocate for meaningful change. Stay tuned for updates on the next steps and how you can continue to be involved! #SchoolCanteens #CommunityWellbeing #FOCIS #NationalRoundtable

Healthy options in school canteens can be both affordable and delicious! With smart shopping, creative menu planning and strategic placement, nutritious options for students can be cost-effective and enjoyed by families. Plus, with Vic Kids Eat Well, there will be plenty of colourful and tasty options kids will love. Read on for 5 tips for success: 𝟏. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬: Place them at the front, near the register, or at eye level. Make them look fresh and colourful. Use catchy names! 𝟐. 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐥𝐲: Keep healthy items affordable. Canteens can use smaller mark-ups on healthy items and higher ones on less healthy options. 𝟑. 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐲: Buy in bulk, look for specials and use ripe produce in recipes. Canned or frozen fruits and veggies are just as nutritious! 𝟒. 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Use social media, newsletters, posters and signage to reach students. Offer taste-tests, specials and meal deals. 𝟓. 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Ask for their ideas and feedback. Meeting kids’ tastes and involving them in a bright and fun canteen is key for success.
