Thanks for making our Flip the Focus event such a success! Fearless and wide ranging conversations were had, on the issues women face in tech - and how to shift them. There were huge stats, big learnings - and laughs too. Great questions from the audience and insightful debate. These are systemic and important conversations, and won't be solved immediately. So, over the next few weeks, we'll share learnings from the evening - along with insights and actions each of us can take to start making change, today. Thanks again to our fantastic panel; Noga Edelstein Claire Waring Karissa A. Breen (KB)and Melissa Cullen GAICD, our Host Jen Dobbie, and to all of you who made time to come to the event; to the Hotwire Australia team; and to our exceptional event photographer, Natalie Page. Awesome to be at the first day of SXSW Sydney for a second year courtesy of Hotwire Australia! In my excitement, I mistakenly went to the wrong venue—turns out the talk was at UTS, not the convention centre. As I walked over, I got caught in a storm—should’ve checked the BOM! I did grab an umbrella from the office on my way out, but it turned out to be broken (explained the dust on it). Not to be deterred I arrived it, albeit slightly wet and with a few more steps on the Garmin! I caught a great talk on the future of coaching sports with AI from the team at LIFEFORM AI. They looked at how everyone from weekend golfers to the Australian Blind Football Team can utilise AI to provide real time feedback and coaching to improve learning and skill acquistion. Looking forward to the rest of the week!

Grab your coffee and get into the key themes from SXSW Sydney 2024! 🤖 AI: Harnessing Human Collaboration A standout theme was the empowerment of human agency in the age of AI. Armand Ruiz's session, "AI as Your Next Co-Worker," emphasised that the future of work is not solely about automation; it’s about how we effectively collaborate with AI to enhance productivity and creativity - a paradigm shift that's essential for driving innovation. 👩💻 Celebrating Women in Tech The spotlight on female tech founders was inspiring. Annie Liao, founder of AI innovation hub Build Club, showed the significant growth in AI engineering roles, emphasising that opportunities are expanding beyond coding positions. Tess Bennett's panel on female leaders at Tech Unicorns also highlighted this pivotal moment for women in tech to seize leadership roles and influence the industry. 🔮 Envisioning the Future of Tech Katherine Bennell-Pegg, the first person to be trained as an astronaut under the Australian flag, provided a compelling perspective on how space tech can address terrestrial challenges - reminding us that innovation knows no bounds and that the solutions we develop can literally have far - reaching impacts. 🎭 The Human Element in Technology Caroline Pegram, Head of Tech & Innovation at SXSW Sydney, succinctly stated, "It's about showing up in a different way." In an era dominated by tech advancements - staying curious, and leaning in with humanity remains the most valuable approach to acknowledge and solve challenges. Any themes or insights you'd like to add? Share them in the comments or reach out to Edson Porto or Jen Dobbie for more discussion. #SXSWSydney2024 #AIForHumans #WomenInTech #Innovation #Creativity #Tech

SXSW Sydney: You have more power than you think. That might sound like a strange message at an event immersed in technology like South by Southwest, but it's the essence of several talks I've attended about AI 🤖, social media 📱, and digital ID 🔐 over the past three days. Many of us feel technology is evolving so quickly, becoming so complex, that we're at the mercy of what's being developed by the world's biggest companies and brightest minds. But many speakers at SXSW Sydney keep reminding their audiences that technology is primarily a tool 🛠️, and that we—those who adopt it—define its applications and development. Not necessarily as individuals but collectively. Consider social media platforms—some of today's richest and most profitable companies. I'm not calling for their end (after all, I'm posting this on LinkedIn), but unlike businesses essential for our existence (like energy companies or food producers), these companies would vanish if we all stopped using them tomorrow. Having a sense of agency—and even responsibility—in how we use, discuss, and adopt technological solutions is like a muscle we need to train. Ultimately, we all make choices, but we're not always aware of them. This is an unexpected message from SXSW, at least for me. 🙃 Hotwire Hotwire Australia Jen Dobbie #SXSW2024 #AIandTech #DigitalResponsibility #FutureOfTech #Future
