Nonprofit dedicated to awareness, education, advocacy and support for Idiopathic Hypersomnia & related sleep disorders.

About us

Our primary purpose is to support the medical community in enhancing their understanding of Idiopathic Hypersomnia, including improved access to effective treatments and the identification of biomarkers that could lead to more accurate diagnostic tools and, ultimately, a cure. Additionally, we are dedicated to being a strong advocate and to raising awareness and educating others about Idiopathic Hypersomnia and Narcolepsy. Our goal is to not just change the process of diagnosis but also to improve the level of care and services available to people post diagnosis. Hypersomnolence Australia hosts the annual Worldwide Idiopathic Hypersomnia Awareness Week (IHAW), 1-7 June. The IHAW champions global awareness and understanding of Idiopathic Hypersomnia (IH). It empowers the IH community to share their experiences and elevates their voices. Hypersomnolence Australia first launched the IHAW in 2013. Since its inception, the IHAW has united the IH community across 15 countries, fostering awareness and promoting education about IH. The IHAW has translated awareness infographics into 13 different languages. Through this united effort within the IH community, we hope to accelerate the diagnosis process, advance research, and reduce stigma.
