Our latest report 'Digital technology and infrastructure productivity' identifies 5 digital technologies that can unlock millions in productivity benefits for Victoria.  The report looks at 25 existing digital technologies and assesses their potential to boost productivity across government infrastructure in the near term. It finds wider use of 5 technologies offers the greatest potential for savings, productivity and improved worker safety:   - machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI)  - robotics   - advanced imaging   - advanced data analytics   - geospatial technologies. One example in the report shows that using robotics for inspection and maintenance across the water sector can prevent water leaks by 10% and save over $140 million in maintenance and repair costs every year. The report identifies 5 actions for the Victorian Government to support adoption of digital technologies. We’re thrilled to announce that Infrastructure Victoria has been named a 2024 Women In Digital Awards finalist for the ‘Public sector: digital transformation team of the year’ category! 🎉 This award recognises excellence in digital transformation and the importance of effective digital capabilities within the public sector. We have been named as a finalist for our new website which we proudly launched in January 2024. We conducted extensive research to understand what people want and need when visiting our site. This allowed us to successfully launch a website that is accessible, easy to navigate, fast to load and designed to connect visitors with more relevant content. We worked with outstanding delivery partners on this project, including Today who worked on user experience and development, and Meri Communication who assisted us with content development and strategy. Infrastructure Victoria CEO Jonathan Spear took part in the National Bush Summit held in Bendigo today.  The annual summit brings regional and rural business owners, communities and industry together to discuss and set an agenda for improving the lives of regional Australians.  Jonathan joined Transport Accident Commission chief executive Tracey Slatter and Municipal Association of Victoria president David Clark to discuss regional roads and how they can be fixed to save lives.  Roads represent an ongoing challenge for Victoria and regional residents, making it an important focus in the decade to come.  Some of our regional roads have been under pressure from the effects of climate change. Most of Victoria’s infrastructure was not built for more ­frequent and severe weather, resulting in infrastructure like roads being exposed to greater damage from storms, bushfires and floods. Our 'Weathering the storm: adapting Victoria's infrastructure to climate change' report shows low cost solutions, such as preventive maintenance for roads, can have a large return on ­investment. New housing developments will be fast-tracked under a state government plan to deliver an extra 60,000 homes across 10 suburban Activity Centres including Camberwell, Chadstone, Niddrie and Ringwood by 2051, The Age reports today. Planning rules for new townhouses and apartments up to six storeys will also be overhauled for areas within a 10-minute walk of the designated hubs to allow denser neighbourhoods close to shopping and transport - https://lnkd.in/g95ctNt4 These proposed changes are well aligned with Infrastructure Victoria research and recommendations on how we can unlock more housing choices, make the most of our infrastructure and get the benefits of a more compact city - https://lnkd.in/gP_EX8dw What else is needed to deliver the housing and infrastructure needed in these Activity Centres? Mitchell Shire and the City of Ballarat are the latest Victorian councils to adopt a 4 bin kerbside collection system from next year. The 4 bin system adds new separate bins for glass and food and garden organics, in addition to comingled recycling and household waste, to reduce contamination and the amount of waste going to landfill. Legislation introduced in 2021 requires all Victorian councils to introduce the 4 bin system by 2030. Around one third of Victoria's 79 councils have introduced the 4 bin system so far.  In 2020, Infrastructure Victoria provided advice to the Victorian Government on improving recycling and resource recovery in Victoria. The advice included 13 recommendations to move Victoria towards a circular economy, including the opportunity to process waste at 87 new or upgraded recycling facilities across Victoria. Buying a 3-bedroom house in inner or middle Melbourne is unaffordable for households earning between $88,021 to $132,030 a year - and rising demand is making it hard for renters too. Without going into housing stress, many families are locked out of areas with better access to jobs, services and other infrastructure. Up to 1 in 3 Victorian households we surveyed told us they would be willing to trade a detached home in a new suburb for a townhouse or apartment at the same price, closer to a city centre.
