Our human centred solutions are designed with people in mind so our goal is always to create simple, considered designs that make a difference.     2024 IDEA Awards Winners! We’re excited to announce that two of our clients’ projects have been honoured at the prestigious IDSA International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) overnight in Austin, Texas at a gala celebration of great design. Vigilance by NLT Digital Solutions has been awarded the coveted Gold IDEA Award. The product, a world first system that provides a paradigm shift for real time underground mining communications and safety, is the result of a long term partnership between NLT’s team of industry experts and Katapult’s industrial designers, UX designers and mechanical engineers. The Gold Award recognises not only design excellence, but the strong collaborative effort that allowed the group to create a product that truly improves underground mining safety and user experience. Katapult have also been extremely proud to support our long time client Flite in their collaboration with world renowned industrial designer Marc Newson. The Limited Edition carbon fibre model, designed by Marc Newson, has earned a Silver IDEA Award. Our team took great pride in providing detailed design and engineering, design for manufacture, production implementation, product testing and visualisation services to the broader project team. This latest model from Flite represents the pinnacle of global eFoil design. For us, these awards provide both our clients and our team a ‘moment in the sun’ for the hours of effort and attention to detail that are needed to deliver world class solutions.     Launch Program 2024 Winner Announced! With more than 40 entries that blew us away with a diversity of amazing creative talent, we are super excited for the future of design. We had loads of fun going through the outstanding entries, with the video challenge as always a favourite of ours, where individuality and personality shine through. The quality of the entries made judging really tough for our panel, who interviewed a short list of the 3 finalists. Congratulations and special mentions to the runners up - Thea Davey and Leo Pryor who were shining stars with their outstanding capabilities and work. We are thrilled to announce our Launch winner for 2024 is Maoxin Yuan, an industrial design graduate from UNSW. Mao's creativity and sense of humour was cleverly woven into his short video and had us hooked from the start. What an extraordinary design talent he is, who stood out from the crowd with his passion for design and hunger to develop his skills and experience. Design for him is also his hobby so you'll find him honing his skills for fun after hours.     A decade and a half of Katapult.   When you start a business you typically launch in with a mixture of excitement, fear and a certain naïve belief. It’s a wonderful time in many ways because founders always have big dreams and a tank full of energy to take on the world. Back in February of 2009 I was no different.   Having come off a year long sabbatical which involved a circumnavigation of our beautiful country, we became an early trendsetter in the now ubiquitous sea change movement and pulled up stumps in Byron Bay. After nearly 12 months of travel, surf and adventure I was ready to get back to work, but I had a burning desire to do it on my own terms. Katapult Design was born.   There are many jokes about running your own business and yes, it can be a stressful grind at times, but I have to say that the rewards and satisfaction that come from building something successful far outweigh the tough times.   Whilst the last 15 years somehow seems to have both taken an eternity and rushed by in a flash of hyperspace, we felt it was worthwhile taking a moment to reflect on our collective story. Over the next few months we’ll share some selected highlights from the Katapult archives showcasing our journey from lounge room to 3 studios, 1 employee to 20+, the incredible projects, our wonderful clients and our super talented team. Oh, and there’s the odd snake encounter, midnight bike race and crazy design brief story in there for good measure!   It’s been quite a ride so far and one that we’re collectively very proud of. If I could say one thing that makes me the happiest, it is the quality of the people that represent Katapult past and present.
