Metro welcomed Fire Rescue Victoria, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, Country Fire Authority (CFA) and Victoria State Emergency Service teams to the Craigieburn depot to learn about our fleet types and network. Train and depot familiarisation visits support emergency services to respond effectively and efficiently to an incident on our rail network. We work closely with community partners to continuously improve processes and exchange ideas.

About us
Since November 2009 Metro Trains Melbourne has been the operator of Melbourne’s growing suburban railway. Currently running more than 15,000 services a week across 16 lines, Metro is committed to creating one of the best engineered railways in the world. Melbourne is Australia’s fastest growing city – a city which is becoming increasingly reliant on public transport networks. Since 2009, Metro’s momentum to grow and change the network has remained steadfast, understanding it is no longer a traditional suburban railway. Adopting global best-practice across all facets of the business provides the foundation for the transformation to a high capacity and high frequency metro-style railway designed for the growing city of Melbourne. With more than 7000 team members across Victoria, we provide an environment that is rooted in honesty and integrity. Metro's team members are committed to serving our communities with the best possible services.

A Metro Trains innovation has won two international awards at the MTR Corporation Limited 香港鐵路有限公司 WIT (Work Improvement Team) Awards. The People Movement Analytics initiative uses LiDAR (light detection and ranging) sensors at stations to capture passenger density on platforms and monitor crowd sizes in real time. The information helps with platform crowd management and alerts staff of any trespassers accessing the rail corridor via the platform. Congratulations to our team on winning Best WIT Project of the Year (International Hubs) and Best Presentation Award (International Hubs) for the initiative. We don’t always get it right but our team give their best every day. Last week (Mon 7/10 -Sun 13/10) our average punctuality for all services was 96.1% which is the best since Metro Trains Melbourne started in November 2009 (excluding COVID years 2020 & 2021). And we delivered 99.4% of all scheduled services. Metro continues to focus on improving and keeping our city moving. “Dear Mr Train Man” Yarraville Station Host Steve was touched to receive a handwritten note and gift from a local, thanking him for his work. An engaged member of the community, Steve often shares ideas on how to make Yarraville Station the best it can be. We’re rapt that the community appreciates him as much as Metro does.

Safety is our priority for Metro teams and passengers alike. There are around 80 passenger slips, trips and falls each month, and they are preventable. As we move into Melbourne’s major events season, we ask everyone to please slow down and stay safe on the network. https://lnkd.in/g5Sc74am

We’ve made navigating through stations and across platforms clearer and easier for passengers, with almost 100 new and upgraded information display screens added to the network this year The new high-quality screens are here to help keep our passengers informed and moving. #metro #wemovemelbourne

It was a tall order, but the Level Crossing Removal Project team have returned two of Parkdale's distinctive palms following works at Parkers and Warrigal roads. These palms are the start of a new green corridor between Como Parade East and West. In the coming months, 80 mature trees and 100,000 saplings, shrubs and grasses will be planted. Three remaining palms will return throughout October. More details: https://bit.ly/3XOPazV
