Shoutout to Aiden, Pat and Rango, teenage train enthusiasts who recently achieved the impressive feat of visiting every Metro station in 24 hours. They reached out to thank Metro teams for a day that ran like clockwork. Their epic journey took just over 19 hours, starting 4.04am at Mernda Station and finishing at Hurstbridge at 11.50pm. Highlights of their meticulously planned mission included catching a musical performance at Flinders Street Station and travelling the historic Belgrave line in its entirety. * journey taken on 24 January, 2025

We are One Team, One Metro.
About us
Since November 2009 Metro Trains Melbourne has been the operator of Melbourne’s growing suburban railway. Currently running more than 15,000 services a week across 16 lines, Metro is committed to creating one of the best engineered railways in the world. Melbourne is Australia’s fastest growing city – a city which is becoming increasingly reliant on public transport networks. Since 2009, Metro’s momentum to grow and change the network has remained steadfast, understanding it is no longer a traditional suburban railway. Adopting global best-practice across all facets of the business provides the foundation for the transformation to a high capacity and high frequency metro-style railway designed for the growing city of Melbourne. With more than 7000 team members across Victoria, we provide an environment that is rooted in honesty and integrity. Metro's team members are committed to serving our communities with the best possible services.

Eagle-eyed visitors to Platform 10 at Flinders Street Station may have spotted two shiny red fire hydrant cabinets. These are the final piece of a fire safety upgrade we’ve been working on in partnership with Fire Rescue Victoria. 🔥 This upgrade, delivered by the Franchise Stations and Facilities Projects Team, is all about keeping the community safe. With these new systems in place, Fire Rescue Victoria will be even better equipped to respond quickly and effectively to any emergencies at the station. 🚒💪

Melbourne’s Campbell Arcade is a 1950s-era dream, an iconic shopping destination, and it’s set to reopen soon. We can’t wait to welcome passengers back to Campbell Arcade, newly upgraded as part of the Metro Tunnel Project. If you can see yourself in a distinctive salmon pink shopfront, expressions of interest are now open to businesses. Find out more: https://bit.ly/43MpUPb And the best part? It now features an underground pedestrian connection so you can transfer between Flinders Street Station and Town Hall Station when the Metro Tunnel opens.

In Melbourne last week, four rail bridges were struck by vehicles within 24 hours. The impact to road and rail users is enormous. All trains must stop until Metro’s bridge inspectors have evaluated the incident and deemed it safe for services to resume. If you are driving a truck, it is your legal responsibility to know the dimensions of your load before starting the engine. To learn more, visit https://lnkd.in/gVTu24tK

How do you get rail workers to sing in tune? Claire Bowditch led a rousing chorus after sharing deeply moving and inspiring stories at Metro’s celebration of International Women’s Day. Our thanks to the Aussie musician, actor, writer and creative entrepreneur (and one-time aspiring tram conductor!) for sharing her insights on how to move past self-doubt and be an ally to each other and to ourselves. Thanks also to all Metro colleagues who went out of their comfort zone to share their experiences today. Our local network has global connections! 🌏 Metro colleagues at the Rail Academy Newport welcomed visitors from Egis in France. A tour of the academy facilities gave our guests a chance to look at upgrades to signalling training systems delivered by Egis subsidiary, Omada Rail Systems in collaboration with our Metro teams. It was a great day showing off Victoria’s only specialist rail training facility.

As part of the M80 Ring Road Completion, the Hurstbridge Line will soon be the home of the second-longest tunnel on our train network, at nearly half a kilometre long. Metro’s engineers have custom-built a new safety system that allows the power to be turned off remotely to ensure emergency services can get quick access to the tunnel. The Remote Isolation System - the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere - will reduce the time it takes to turn off the overhead power from more than an hour down to 90 seconds. Well done to the team, who used innovation to ensure safety is kept at the forefront of everything we do. North East Link 👷

International Women’s Day allows us to recognise the women who help keep Melbourne moving. Women at Metro work in every role at every level of the organisation. Metro is striving to be a workplace where all employees can access equal resources and opportunities, and people of all genders and backgrounds feel safe and supported to bring their whole selves to work. Five of our female employees share a bit about their journey and what it’s like working at Metro, and what International Women’s Day and the 2025 theme, ‘March Forward’, means to them. Read more about how Metro is creating a more gender diverse and inclusive workplace here: https://lnkd.in/gbEh_YpZ

🌟 Congratulations to our 15 scholarship recipients! 🌟 It was fantastic to meet the 15 exceptional individuals chosen to undertake the Australasian Railway Association (ARA)’s ‘Professional Certificate in Rail’. The initiative was announced as part of Metro's 15-year celebrations, to help kick-start careers in the rail industry - and we’re proud to contribute to the development of aspiring rail professionals. The recipients have come from diverse industries and backgrounds, and we look forward to them bringing their unique skills to the rail industry. The certificate is industry designed and recognised, and we thank Danny Broad and Kassandra Koudelka and Georgia Nicholls from ARA for their attendance and support of the scholarship program.
