About us
Recognizing the fundamental human desire for belonging and active participation within a community, the NDIS Community endeavours to gather insights from diverse sources. Our goal is to foster unity and provide high-quality assistance to individuals with disabilities residing in Australia. We acknowledge the pivotal role of discussions in shaping social and political dialogues across Australia. Through these conversations, media outlets and policymakers gain valuable perspectives on matters concerning the disabled community. Within the NDIS Community, we aspire to engage in multifaceted discussions encompassing various aspects of disability and the experiences encountered within the NDIS framework. Contributions from service providers, community members, educators, and professionals are crucial in ensuring the provision of quality, safety, and overall well-being for individuals with disabilities. Empowering these stakeholders to lead discussions on issues pertinent to them is integral to our approach. Driven by individuals with disabilities themselves, the NDIS Community serves as a platform for advocacy and collaboration. We are actively seeking additional sponsors to bolster our efforts in supporting the disability community. Committed to increasing participation and representation of Black and Brown women, and girls with disabilites in the mass media.
As we welcome September, we must recognize the power of our diversity and the strength in our inclusion. At Divas With Disabilities Project, we are more than a community; we are a movement that amplifies the voices of women of color with disabilities. Our stories, talents, and experiences shape a narrative that challenges societal norms and redefines what it means to be truly inclusive. Inclusion is not just about making room at the table—it’s about rebuilding the table to ensure everyone is valued and heard. As Divas, we bring our unique perspectives, resilience, and defiance against the odds. Today, we celebrate not just who we are, but the powerful impact we have when we come together. Every day, we break barriers, not just for ourselves but for future generations. We are living proof that diversity is our strength and inclusion is our power. Help us change the perception about what visible disability looks like for Black and Brown Women and Girls. Writing partner for regenerative architects & designers 🌿 Biophilic & regenerative storytelling coach 🌱 Nature-based meditation teacher 🌳 Parent advocate AuDHD
I’d told my husband we were going to try to switch off. We desperately needed a week away just for ourselves. We’d gone to Cornwall after quite a difficult year, finally able to find some space and breathe out. And after giving our AuDHD (young adult) kids the choice of joining us, we’d accepted they were happier to stay at home by themselves. But as any parent knows, particularly one of neurodivergent children, they’re never far from your mind. So it was inevitable we talked about them a lot as we walked along the beach and the coastal path. And there were a few issues we had to sort out with them from a distance – mainly down to the fact one’s chaotically messy, and the other easily overwhelmed by too much stuff. We were fertile grounds already when we came across this book in a little independent bookshop in Padstow. I’d had it on my reading list for a while and knew it was good. But after reading it cover-to-cover one wet afternoon in the holiday house, I can tell you it’s far more than good. It’s life-changing. Even as a mum who spends hours reading about AuDHD or in parent chat forums, I understood things about my children’s late-diagnosed experience I don’t think I’ve ever fully understood before. There were times I felt a jolt of love and compassion as it dawned on me just how hard life had been for them. But it’s also at its heart a profoundly positive book – a manifesto for change underpinned by humour, hope, and celebration of the untypical mind. I put it down again feeling confident I could be a better parent and my kids would find their feet. Please, please *everyone* read this book as a service to yourselves, your neurodivergent people, and to wider society. It should be compulsory reading in every teacher training course at the very least. Thank you Pete Wharmby for this gift to us. And thank you also Mark Ellerby for being the first to let me know about it. #neurodiversity #autism #ADHD #neurodivergence As ‘writing partner for regenerative design’, I include neuroarchitecture and design for neurodiversity inclusion. I apply my lived experience – both as an architecture copywriter and as an untypical parent navigating (literally and metaphorically) the public and schools building challenge – to help architects tell the world what they’re doing to change things.

The neurodiversity-affirming movement, emerging in the 1990s, challenges traditional views of neurodivergence as disorders requiring treatment, instead advocating for understanding and support that recognises these conditions as natural variations of human experience. This approach emphasises the strengths and lived experiences of neurodivergent individuals, particularly in the context of autism, and calls for inclusive practices in research, therapy, and social integration that respect preferences and identities. #actuallyautistic #autism #autistic #autismawareness #autismacceptance #autismspectrum #psychologist #psychology #alliedhealthprofessionals #teachers #psychiatry #InclusiveHealthcare #InclusiveSociety #BlogWednesday
