Maritime Ready Program Sets Sail in Cairns: A Milestone for the Australian Maritime Industry
In a groundbreaking initiative, NORSTA Maritime, in collaboration with the the Royal Australian Navy Regional Maintenance Centre North East, Employment Services providers APM, and regional training providers the Dawsons Group of Companies and Major Training Group (RTO 6139), has launched and implemented the Maritime Ready Program.
This innovative program is supported by the Australian Government's Department of Employment and Workplace Relations under the Workforce Australia Local Jobs, Local Recovery Program in the Cairns Employment Region. The program is aligned to the Cairns Region Workforce Development Plan, 2024.
A First-of-Its-Kind Initiative
The Maritime Ready Program marks a significant milestone in the Australian maritime industry, bringing together key stakeholders, industry partners, and dedicated individuals to address entry-level requirements in the Cairns maritime sector. This pioneering program has been designed by local industry to meet the specific needs of maritime businesses in Cairns, providing training, work experience, and employment opportunities to address skills and workforce needs.
Industry-Wide Support
The program has garnered strong support from local industry, with host businesses including Norship , Tropical Reef Shipyard, Austal, BME NQ Pty Ltd. BME NQ, CSF Industries, Perrott Engineering Pty Ltd, TCS Shipwrights & Joinery, North Marine and Griffin Marine Services Pty Ltd. By participating in the Maritime Ready Program, these host businesses will help shape a unified industry opportunity to increase employment and skills demand in the maritime workforce.

The Maritime Ready Program demonstrates a collaborative approach to addressing the skills and workforce needs of the Cairns Maritime Industry. By working together, industry partners, training providers, and government agencies can create a pipeline of skilled and job-ready individuals to support the growth and development of the maritime sector in Cairns.
