It’s always impressive seeing Austal’s 1120t mobile boat hoist, the second largest in the Southern Hemisphere, in action. Especially when it’s the result of quick-thinking teamwork and great efficiency. In late January, Austal Cairns received a call from Sea Swift regarding a failure on their cargo vessel, FOURCROY. The Austal Cairns team acted fast, adjusting the shipyard’s schedule to ensure the vessel was docked and ready for repairs within 12 hours of arrival in Cairns, Queensland on 10th February. Following expert repairs, FOURCROY returned to sea and resumed operations, exceeding client expectations for quality, service and efficiency. Austal Australia has joined the new Joint Supply Chain Accreditation Register, or JOSCAR, as part of reforms to defence industry procurement that aim to reduce SME costs and red tape. Austal joins 11 defence prime contractors and Defence Australia’s Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), who have transitioned across to the user-friendly data capture solution, launched in Australia by Hellios Information in June 2024. JOSCAR simplifies the process of supplier due diligence, enhances supplier assurance, and supports compliance with regulatory requirements for both suppliers and buyers. It helps suppliers by enabling company information to be submitted once, making the process more efficient and less repetitive, reducing the duplication of effort and the cost to suppliers. Austal’s Head of Strategic Supply Chain, Brent Carey said joining the JOSCAR community reflects Austal’s commitment to fostering stronger relationships with suppliers and industry partners, streamlining processes, and contributing to the growth of sovereign capabilities. “The adoption of JOSCAR represents an important step forward for Austal in aligning with best practices across the Defence sector. We look forward to working alongside our peers to maximize the platform’s potential and drive continuous improvement in supply chain management.” For more information about supplying to Austal Australia visit https://lnkd.in/gch7cWn - or to join the JOSCAR community in Australia, go to https://lnkd.in/giNNJRGG. #JOSCAR #defenceindustry #SME #supplychain

Austal Limited (ASX:ASB) has today released its financial results for the financial year ended 31 December 2024 (FY2025 H1). The Company recorded Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) of $42.7 million (FY2024 H1: $32.1 million), on revenue of $825.7 million (FY2024 H1: $717.7 million). EBIT was significantly higher than both the first half and second half results in FY2024 and was ahead of expectations. The growth in earnings reflected an increase in revenue in USA shipbuilding and a recovery in Australasian shipbuilding operations. The award of two infrastructure contracts totalling ~US$600 million significantly strengthened the closing net cash position to $212.6 million and supports the Company’s planned capex program to increase manufacturing capacity and drive continued growth. The first was a US$450 million contract awarded by General Dynamics Electric Boat to fund Austal USA to enhance existing infrastructure by designing, constructing and outfitting a new module fabrication and outfitting facility at Austal’s Mobile shipyard (MMF3). The second was a US$150 million contract from the US Navy to invest in enhancing ancillary infrastructure and facilities adjacent to Austal USA’s facilities and around the Mobile area. Both contracts aim to support the US Navy goal of delivering one Columbia-class and two Virginia-class submarines annually. Austal Chief Executive Officer Paddy Gregg said: “Austal delivered a very strong start to the 2025 financial year with EBIT and revenue performance ahead of expectations for the half. We continued to grow the order book with new defence and commercial contract awards, improve operating margins, and significantly increased our net cash position by $209 million. Austal now has record work in hand of $14.2 billion, and a strengthening balance sheet to support investment in manufacturing capacity and drive continued growth over the next decade. “The outlook for the second half is very positive with potential for the order book to grow further if the Australian Government contracts programs through the Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement, and we continue to see operational improvements on our US build programs and through the increased volume of commercial work in Asia. We now expect FY2025 EBIT to be not less than the $80 million we guided at the AGM. “It is an exciting time for the Company as the long-term investment made in developing deep defence relationships in the United States and Australia, founded on product innovation, technology and demonstrated shipbuilding and support capabilities, is starting to deliver increased returns.” Read the full company announcement, investors presentation and view or download the Austal Limited FY2025 Half Year Report at https://lnkd.in/gyMeGZM4

Austal Limited is pleased to announce Austal Australasia has been awarded a contract valued between A$265 and A$275 million by Gotlandsbolaget of Sweden, for the design and construction of a 130-metre combined cycle, ‘hydrogen-ready’ vehicle passenger ferry. Part of Gotlandsbolaget’s ‘Horizon X’ program, the high-speed ROPAX catamaran will be the largest vessel ever constructed by Austal, and feature a unique, highly efficient combined cycle propulsion system that includes both gas and steam turbines – a first for high-speed craft, worldwide. With a capacity to transport up to 1,500 passengers, cargo and 400 vehicles, the ‘Horizon X’ multi-fuel catamaran will be designed by Austal with construction at the Austal Philippines shipyard commencing the first half of CY2026; utilising “green aluminium”, produced using energy efficient processes and technologies that use less carbon, resulting in lower emissions. Construction is scheduled to complete in mid-2028. Announcing the contract award, Austal Limited Chief Executive Officer, Paddy Gregg said "Horizon X is an incredibly exciting project that is going to re-define commercial ferry capabilities, with a multi-fuel and hydrogen-capable combined cycle powerplant and a class-leading, efficient hull design. “The flexible fuel technology demonstrated in Horizon X is leading the transition to decarbonisation of commercial ferries, and we’re proud to be at the forefront, partnering with Gotlandsbolaget, to deliver this industry-leading new ferry. Mr Gregg further emphasised Austal's commitment to delivering a high-speed catamaran that represents a significant step towards climate-neutral emission targets while providing an exceptional passenger experience. Gotlandsbolaget Chief Executive Officer, Håkan Johansson expressed his enthusiasm for the Horizon X project, saying “Thanks to the great collaboration between Gotland Tech Development and Austal, we can now move forward in supplementing our existing fleet of larger passenger and cargo vessels with a high-speed, multi fuel-catamaran, which is also hydrogen-ready.” “Horizon X is not only designed for speed and efficiency but also for sustainability, as it incorporates cutting-edge green technology, including a hydrogen-ready, highly efficient gas turbine propulsion system. “This vessel is a key step in our strategy to achieve climate-neutral operations, utilising lightweight green aluminium and advanced hydrodynamic design to minimise fuel consumption and emissions. “Serving the island of Gotland and the (Swedish) mainland in a climate and environmentally responsible way is at the heart of our mission, and Horizon X represents a significant milestone in that journey," Mr Johansson added. FranmarineFlinders University and Austal collaborate to demonstrate Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Inspection Capability in support of shipbuilding and sustainment. With the objective of meeting the immediate needs of the maritime industry, Franmarine is working in collaboration with ARC Training Centre for Biofilm Research & Innovation to develop autonomous underwater capabilities. The mission planning technology enables a vehicle to independently operate underwater, following a predetermined route to methodically inspect the hull of a platform. The vehicle can regulate its depth and course, adjusting for tide and current without requiring any external input. What this means is that a broader community, including autonomous naval platforms, can make use of this capability without requiring personnel trained in ROV operations, Classification requirements, biosecurity regulations and reporting specifications. Through integrating the Autonomous vehicle with the #MarineStream software, the inspection was able to be viewed in real-time remotely, enabling stakeholders to directly observe the condition of the vessel's hull. This integrated capability is designed to improve underwater inspection, maintenance and repair outcomes.  When it comes to biofouling management, inspecting a vessel is only the beginning. Once the level of marine growth has been assessed, objective analysis of the impact this is having on a vessel's performance and how this relates to compliance with International Biofouling Regulations can occur. Franmarine can accurately calculate the additional operating cost and GHG emissions directly attributed to the biofouling on a platform. Through tracking the level of fouling, the optimum periodicity for environmentally compliant In-Water Cleaning with capture is determined to realise cost-efficiencies, increase platform availability, maintain optimum performance and cut harmful environmental emissions. We are incredibly thankful to Austal for enabling us to successfully demonstrate this capability in Henderson, WA. #Franmarine #MarineStream #BiofoulingManagement #UnderwaterEngineering #UnderwaterSustainment #Diving #ROV #Autonomous #IntegratedCapability
