We thoroughly enjoyed working with the Australian Marine Complex and Ventia on the 5 Year class survey of WA's very own Yargan. We are proud to have supported the quick return to capability of this very important piece of WA Infrastructure. Congratulations to James Parsons and the Australian Marine Complex team on a well run project and a huge thanks to Jake Baarsoe and the rest of the WA Griffin Marine Services Pty Ltd team on another job (very) well done. Floating Dock 5 Year Class Survey: Serviced and ready for another half-decade Our floating dock team have done it again! On the 31st of July, they successfully completed the mandated 5 yearly class survey of the floating dock with the certifying authority, Bureau Veritas Group Veritas (BV). The survey ensures the dock is safe to operate and compliant with its vessel class requirements. It involved detailed inspections of mechanical, electrical, safety and emergency response equipment. Additionally, a full assessment of protective coatings, including the hull and ballast tanks was also undertaken. Commenting on the renewal, Ventia’s AMC CUF Project Director, James Parsons said “This was the third class survey that our floating dock, Yargan*, has completed and is a significant milestone and major achievement for the team. Understanding both the importance of meeting the class requirements and the urgency by which it needed to occur, we critically reviewed the survey schedule and timings. With the support of DevelopmentWA and help from our partners, Griffin Marine Services Pty Ltd and BV we reduced the downtime by 35 per cent thereby increasing docking opportunities for the market. Being able to complete the class survey while still providing docking options is a fantastic example of working smart in close collaboration with industry. These are both excellent examples of how the AMC CUF engages with and enables local business.” * Yargan is the Noongar word for tortoise and similarly, the floating dock has amphibious qualities and will carry heavy vessels, like a tortoise carries its shell, to transfer them to and from land.
