In exciting news from Central Australia, the Araluen Arts Centre is hosting a regional tour of the #ArchibaldPrize2024 exhibition! Running from 24 April to 15 June 2025, this marks the inaugural display of the prestigious exhibition in the Northern Territory. Featured in the collection is Matt Adnate's Packing Room Prize-winning portrait of Baker Boy (Danzal Baker), capturing his rise from Arnhem Land to a national music icon. Adnate's work—spanning murals, canvases, and this portrait—celebrates a decade-long bond with Baker Boy, showcasing his influence in music, dance, acting, and graffiti art. Since 1921, the Archibald Prize has celebrated stunning portraits and honoured prominent Australians. In 2024, the Art Gallery NSW received a record 1,005 entries, including the highest number of submissions from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. Coinciding with the exhibition, Araluen Arts Centre will present the Young Archie Mparntwe competition, featuring awards across four age categories. The Araluen Arts Centre is situated in the heart of the Araluen Cultural Precinct, which hosts the annual Alice Springs Beanie Festival, the Desert Mob Exhibition, and is home to a comprehensive collection of works by the renowned Arrente watercolour artist Albert Namatjira.
