March 2025 marked the launch of a new chapter in Origin’s brand story: All kinds of useful. We have a refreshed look, and a commitment to being useful in everything we do - from helping customers save on bills to building large-scale batteries and wind farms to transition our portfolio to cleaner forms of energy. We also celebrated Eraring’s 40+ years of powering NSW, launched a new season of our So Watt? podcast, and strengthened our domestic gas supply commitments through our Australia Pacific LNG joint venture - just a few of our March highlights.
About us
Origin is one of Australia's leading energy companies, exploring, generating and delivering energy to over 4 million customer accounts. Our purpose – getting energy right for our customers, communities and planet – drives everything we do. As Australia's largest energy retailer, we have an important role to play in providing electricity, natural gas, solar and LPG to Australian communities and work every day to make energy more affordable, more sustainable, smarter and easier for our customers. We are committed to leading the transition to a cleaner energy future and believe our company, and the energy industry more broadly, should be at the forefront of action to reduce carbon emissions. Origin was the first Australian company to set an emissions reduction target endorsed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) – aiming to halve our Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions by 2032, as we work towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Through the Origin Energy Foundation, we support programs that use education to help break the cycle of disadvantage and empower young Australians to reach their potential, contributing more than $27 million to support community organisations since 2010. Easy access to higher education has been a long-standing challenge for communities in Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. That’s why the Origin Energy Foundation has been helping provide support for the Wuyagiba Bush Uni since 2018 – a study hub offering an on-country pathway to university for Aboriginal students. Through our Foundation’s volunteering program, Origin volunteers and partners were recently welcomed into the community, bringing public solar lighting and education resources to support student learning and share in their culture. Allegro Energy has today unveiled Australia’s first locally-manufactured microemulsion flow battery in Newcastle — a non-flammable, cost-effective and grid-scale battery technology. We believe battery storage, including long duration storage, will play a critical role in Australia’s energy transition. Through our partnership with Allegro, we’re excited to pilot this innovative technology at Eraring Power Station before exploring further rollout to customer sites.

This week, the energy regulators announced their draft pricing recommendations for 2025/26 for the Victorian Default Offer (VDO) and Default Market Offer (DMO). These default offers apply to electricity customers on ‘standing offers’ and are the maximum price retailers can charge customers on these contracts. There's no change to prices today. The final decisions on the VDO and DMO are due from the regulators in late May, with any price changes to take effect from July. For any customers experiencing hardship and having trouble paying their bills, we have a range of ways we can help. We encourage anyone needing support to contact us.
