This National Tree Day, Santos GLNG partnered with Tondoon Botanic Gardens to give away 1,000 Port Curtis Region native seedlings to Gladstone locals. Native plants are essential to the conservation of biodiversity, which creates healthy ecosystems that clean our water, purify our air, maintain healthy soil, regulate the climate and provide us with food and other resources. Operating our LNG Facility on Curtis Island, off Gladstone, we understand the importance of protecting an area’s diverse and unique ecology and heritage for future generations and have supported the LNG Industry Offset Plan which sees 59 per cent of Curtis Island actively managed under a conservation management plan. We are proud to support National Tree Day with the roll out of these starter packs which include two native seedlings, potting mix, gardening globes and sunscreen. #NationalTreeDay

At Perth Children’s Hospital, Santos’ long-term partnership with Ronald McDonald House has paved the way for a Ground floor Family Room, and Kulunga Moort Mia, a culturally sensitive space where families can rest or meet together. These facilities are a place of respite for families visiting the hospital, including many who come from regional and remote WA. We are proud to continue our support to Ronald McDonald House and the care it gives families and kids in their time of need. 

Santos is helping to provide economic opportunities to Papua New Guinean women with an initiative that will also benefit and to improve the health and nutrition of local families. The Santos-supported MOKUT Women Business Group recently won the ‘Outstanding Women’s Contribution in the Resource Industry Award’ at PNG Resources Week 2024. The business group and charitable initiative, which supports more than 200 women, teaches agricultural skills and delivers financial literacy training through its farms in the Moran and Kutubu regions, and also enables local women to earn a sustainable living from selling their farm produce, including eggs. Santos works in close partnership with South Australian testing and inspection company, NDE Solutions, to deploy innovative solutions to pipeline maintenance inspection challenges. Beginning as a two-person operation in 2019, NDE Solutions has been working with Santos for almost five years. During this time, their support has expanded to servicing assets right across our Australian portfolio and the group has grown to employ almost 100 staff. This work saw NDE named Santos’ Contractor of the Year at our recent Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability Awards. “Thank you, Santos, for believing in us, for supporting us, and for inspiring us to reach new heights. Santos reports strong free cash flow generation and significant progress on major projects in its 2024 second quarter report released today. Key milestones include the Moomba phase one Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project which is now over 90% complete and in final commissioning phase. Santos’ literacy library program engages children aged between four to six years old, helping them to meet school readiness standards. This is one way the Santos Foundation and its partners are enhancing literacy development in Papua New Guinea.

In 2021, Santos established an Indigenous Advisory Panel to help us better understand the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities where we operate around Australia. This has led to a number of new initiatives at Santos, including an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employee mentoring program called ‘Mob Matters’ and a recruitment focus which has delivered Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representation of 2.2% - about double what it was just a few years ago.

The Santos Aboriginal Power Cup is the longest-running education-based program within an elite sporting club in Australia and the longest-running education-based program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders across the AFL platform. Through Santos’ partnership, the program has grown from 133 students in 2008 to over 670 students today. See how Santos is making a real difference to create opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through programs like the Santos Aboriginal Power Cup and the Darwin Harbour Clean-up. 

Our dedicated job readiness and apprenticeship programs are providing pathways for young Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders to find secure, well-paying, skilled jobs. For us here at Santos, these programs – which bridge the gap between leaving school and starting work – are a model that works, and we want to expand this model across our operations.
