About us
The Product Stewardship Centre of Excellence was established in December 2020 by a consortium of UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures, the Australian Industry Group and Dentsu Creative, in partnership with the Australian Government through the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. Product Stewardship enables companies, brands and retailers to reduce waste generation and improve environmental performance by taking primary responsibility for their products and services across the life-cycle and value chain. Product Stewardship is one of the key pathways for businesses to operationalise circular economy principles and objectives in a real-world context. The Centre supports and mentors companies to design-out waste while also keeping products and materials circulating in the economy. Core to the Centre’s work is webinars, training, workshops and guidance tools to help industry design and manufacture products so that they are easier to repair, reuse, recover and recycle. We provide input to the Australian Government on priority areas for stewardship action, as well as supporting businesses to get involved in a practical, business-oriented way, and help existing schemes to improve their performance. The Product Stewardship Excellence Awards delivered in 2021, 2022 and 2023 have been a highly successful vehicle to celebrate and acknowledge the best of the best in stewardship across categories covering people, products, materials, schemes, organisations, digitalisation and emissions reduction. ResiLoop Advisory Panel – Seeking Industry Leaders to Shape a Sustainable Future for Flooring To help shape the future of resilient flooring industry in Australia, ResiLoop is forming an Advisory Panel. We are cultivating a community that represents the full breadth of the industry and those with technical expertise to support transition to a circular economy. Our goal is to develop highly effective solutions to tackle floorcovering waste and build the necessary infrastructure locally for a more sustainable future. Working alongside our Board, this panel will play a critical role in shaping the conversation, offering insights, and developing recommendations for the scheme to meet ResiLoop goals. We are seeking leaders and representatives from the resilient flooring industry including: * members, floor layers, flooring contractors, and product retailers. We are also looking for specialists with expertise in: * Local manufacturing * Recycling and circular economy * Waste recovery and logistics * Legal and risk management * R&D, material science, and chemistry * Stakeholder engagement and marketing Meeting 2-3 times per year, participation in the ResiLoop Advisory Panel is an opportunity for those passionate about driving forward effective product stewardship, plastics recycling and material circularity. Tyre Stewardship Australia applauds the Federal and Western Australian governments’ co-investment of $44.1 million in nine new recycling projects to improve recycling capabilities across Perth and in regional areas 👏👏 Three tyre projects were supported, totalling to over $10 million worth of government investment to help process the massive amount of huge mining tyres used in the Pilbara region of WA. Tyre Stewardship Australia has been engaging with the WA mining sector about tyre recovery and recycling and is actively advocating for a stronger approach to tyre stewardship in Australia so that all tyres can achieve sustainable outcomes at their end of life. “We know that boosting recycling isn’t just good for the environment, it’s good for jobs - for every one job in landfill, there are three jobs in recycling”, said Commonwealth Minister for the Environment and Water, the Hon Tanya Plibersek. “With Western Australia generating almost half of the nation’s off-the-road mining tyre waste, the Cook Government is particularly pleased to be supporting multiple projects which will assist the mining industry to improve the recovery and recycling of off-the-road tyres.” said the Western Australian Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Action, the Hon Reece Whitby.
