🚍 Customer experience is key to public transport success! PTAANZ and L.E.K. Consulting's 'Mobility Beyond the Pandemic' report emphasises that to increase public transport ridership, customer experience must be at the forefront. Public transport needs to be more reliable, frequent, and convenient for users to choose it over private vehicles. ✨ Key takeaway: The report highlights that improving the frequency, reliability, and overall experience of public transport systems will make them more competitive. In particular, initiatives such as real-time service updates and better communication on crowding and reliability are essential. For example, Austroads evaluated several case studies where on-road bus priority was installed and found that even low-cost projects can deliver significant travel time improvements for buses and significant patronage uplifts. The report also calls for ensuring safety and security, which directly impacts customer confidence. In Victoria, for instance, protective services officers are deployed at train stations in the evening to improve safety, while Transport for NSW is using AI technology to enhance security across the network. 🛠️ Building a customer-centric public transport system means integrating technology and security solutions to improve the overall journey experience. This, in turn, will make public transport a more attractive option in the 'new normal.'
