🌾 Exploring Grains Research and Development Corporation National Variety Trials (NVT) at Gerogery! 🌾 We had an great session at the NVT site in Gerogery, NSW, where we dug deep into crop performance and profitable growing strategies. Conversations revolved around sowing dates, yield potential, marketability, and susceptibility to disease. Discussion on identifying frost damage was led by Sheree Hamson, Elders agronomist. Most saying damage was variable across paddocks so difficult to quantify. The option to make hay may still be available however there is plenty of cost factors to consider including the export of nutrients. Big thanks to our expert speakers and growers who joined us! 🙌 These conversations are driving the future of profitable, sustainable farming. ➡️More info on the Hyper Profitable Crops project: https://hubs.la/Q02Tz3bc0

Livestock producers at the Evan Moll Gerogery Field Day enjoyed learning from Martin Preuss, Paul Simpson & Clare Crane on the topics of: 🌱Feed budgeting: to gain a better understanding of your stocks feed requirements & plan for when you need to provide supplementary feed. Plus dry matter assessment for feed quantity and quality. 🐑Water quality impact on livestock production & health 🐄Measuring dam depth and capacity 💧Enhancing farm dams through improving biodiversity & dam water quality, fencing off stock access, providing alternative water sources & revegetation. Last Wednesday we attended a Grains and Mixed Farming Research Field Day at The University of Melbourne Dookie Campus. The day showcased a number of projects including the new Future Drought Fund (FDF) Long Term Farming Systems trial site that will run for four years. This FDF Long Term project aims to investigate innovative cropping, grazing and mixed farming practices through the lens of improving drought resilience and associated risk management. Riverine Plains is looking forward to demonstrating components of the trial at a paddock scale from 2025! We are looking for input from local producers to help shape the Dookie trial and the paddock demonstrations. Please reach out if you have ideas to share or would like to be more involved in shaping the future of this project.🌾🐮
