Managing work related violence means addressing hazards from the dual lenses of psychosocial and physical risk.
We partnered with National Disability Services and QUT (Queensland University of Technology) to better understand work-related violence (WRV) in the residential disability sector. To prevent and manage WRV in your workplace: ➡ 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐬 of violence and aggression in your work environment. ➡ 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 to create controls that minimise these risks. ➡ 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐚 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 that does not accept violence and aggression. ➡ 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬 around preventing and managing incidents. ➡ 𝐄𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 and take action on all incidents. ➡ 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟 on de-escalation techniques and early intervention. ➡ 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 to keep everyone safe. ➡ 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 to any employees affected by WRV.
