Last Thursday we shared a meal with some incredible humans in Newcastle. As we do at all our Business for Good events, we went around the table, listening to everyones story, what bought them here and if they had any asks/offers of the community to help them on their journey. 🙌 👕 From helping women in Cambodia and Vietnam to upskill to reach international sewing standards and more competitive, quality products 💡 to blending all their experiences to be openly curious about what the next career step could look like and forging new businesses for good; 🏦 building relationships and being a bank owned by the community, servicing the community with over 50+ branches in Australia; 🔵 launching a vibrant not-for-profit circular economy retail and community space in Newcastle; 🗺 moving from the thriving social enterprise scene in Melbourne to Newcastle and finding what’s on offer; 💙 going above and beyond a position description and championing employee volunteering, connecting NSW health workers to social enterprise, charity and not-for-profit volunteering opportunities; and 🎤 learning new skills and launching a successful series 1 of a podcast that showcases all facets of sustainability in the Newcastle community… there is so much goodness in Newcastle and great people so willing to connect, share and support the community. Congratulations Chocolate On Purpose!

I’d like to share I’ve been selected as a 2024 Coralus Venture 🎉 I’m overwhelmed to have been seen for my passion and purposes for the impactful work I do to enable the change our World needs, by delivering outcomes against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). Thank you Coralus Activators! 🙏🏼 I was fortunate to recently enjoy enlightening conversations with Coralus Founder, Vicki… are there any that are not? 💛… and learn that while I was in a funk about the result of the Referendum last year, a YES vote occurred within 48 hours of the shock wave of Australia voting NO. The amazing Women and Non-Binary members of Coralus decided that rejection of a Voice for Indigenous Australians would NOT be accepted by them, and determined that ALL Australian Ventures in 2024 would be female and non-binary INDIGENOUS Founders… and incredibly… I’m one of them! 🫶🏼 This is truly an example of our Ancestors in ACTION… little did I know what magical energy the Ancestors had sparkling ✨✨ within this amazing community the day after the Referendum as I mourned the loss of opportunity from rejection of the Voice. I am so grateful these sparkles ✨✨ landed on me 🫶🏼 I’m energised by the Coralus Community’s commitment to amplify my impact, and thankful for the wraparound of support 🙌🏼 The trailblazer of this initiative is the marambangbilang (super deadly) Carol Vale. Mandaang guwu (thank you) for your tireless, graceful, and fierce leadership within Coralus, and for your Matriarchal care and guidance to us Tiddas ♥️💛🖤 Congratulations to my Sisters Tammy Baart of Blak Ignited, Erica Eurell of Dreamtime Artistry, Kimberley Wanganeen of Kimberley Wanganeen Consultancy, Jenny Khan of The Unexpected Guest, Karen Iles of Violet Co Legal & Consulting, Tara Croker of Yaala Sparkling, Sheryl Batchelor of Yiliyapinya Indigenous Corporation and Yolanda Finette of Yolanda Finette Coaching & Consultancy 💛 Want something done – fund a woman to deliver 💛 Want to empower Indigenous communities – make it an Indigenous business leader! ❤️💛🖤

Conversations around the table at our quarterly Business for Good Lunch in Wollongong today included social procurement, charities that are leaning in to social enterprise, whether 'supported employment' and 'open employment' are the best terms to use, men's health initiatives and circular economy. Plus the news that yourtown have launched a digital marketing agency and are looking for clients (low bono rates available for social enterprises). And The Flagstaff Group have drop-off times for residents to bring in their soft plastics for recycling (clear soft plastics only). A wonderful mix of topics as always when you get people working in and interested in social enterprise together! Thanks for joining us: Kirk Bendall Ainslie Tweedie - iAccelerate Kylie Flament - Social Enterprise Council of NSW & ACT (SECNA) Kirsten Bissett - The Flagstaff Group Carly Pascoe - Wollongong City Council Michael Norris - The Disability Trust Nansy McCarthy - yourtown Georgia Watson - iAccelerate Kate Fitzgerald - Elemental Aim We'll publish our 2025 events calendar soon.
