About us
SLR’s purpose is Making Sustainability Happen. We achieve this by having a team of expert advisors and technicians, who partner with our clients to tackle some of the world's most complex sustainability challenges, by utilising our collaborative and entrepreneurial One Team culture. SLR has been advising clients for over 30 years at every point of their project life-cycle. Starting as a UK business, we now operate as a global company with more than 4,400 people delivering client solutions across six regions. We have grown both organically and through welcoming other like-minded businesses with a similar One Team culture into the SLR group. We are ably supported by our principal investor, Ares Management, and will continue to build a balanced, successful and growing business. We’ve designed working life at SLR to look a little different. Because we know talented people often feel restricted by the rigid systems, lack of cross-functional collaboration and limited options for growth on offer elsewhere. Our One Team culture promotes meaningful professional and personal growth, our flat management structure provides many opportunities to progress, and our collaborative approach means you’ll get the chance to work on projects you care about and make a real difference. If you’re purpose-driven, self-motivated and keen to make an impact on a global scale, we want to hear from you.

On Day 2 of the field trip to DRDGold, Danie Otto, our Asset Transition and Closure Business Lead, provided valuable insights into the extensive studies conducted since 2005 for the development of a regional TSF. Reported to be the largest lined facility of its kind in the world, the system’s scale and complexity were on full display as they also visited the construction site and observed the lining work currently underway. This firsthand experience offered a unique perspective on the challenges and achievements of this remarkable project. #makingsustainabilityhappen #slr #sustainablesolutions #mineclosure
Day 2 Highlights: Field Trip to DRDGold 🚜 Today, we stepped out of the conference room and into the field as DRDGOLD Limited hosted us for an insightful site visit! Mr. Kevin Kruger (MD DRDGold) welcomed us with an overview of their mission, to reclaim, reprocess, and rehabilitate historic gold tailings storage facilities, to open up land for various uses. Mr. Hulme Scholes & Ms. Lia Bolz (Malan Scholes Attorneys) shared the legal evolution of tailings management, noting that before 1992, there was no obligation for mines to rehabilitate. The Minerals Act 50 of 1991 changed that. Ms. Anja Esterhuizen (Pr.Sci.Nat.) (DRDGold)introduced us to the Mega Dam: the largest free-standing, fully lined dam in the world! At full capacity, it will stand 108m tall, processing 2.4M tonnes/month with a max capacity of 800M tonnes! Mr. Jacques Botha presented findings from his master’s research on rehabilitation trials for DRDGold’s tailings facilities. Mr. Rulof Nortje (Stefanutti Stocks) walked us through the construction progress on the Mega Dam, followed by a live site visit. Mr. Zakhele Nkosi (University of Pretoria) closed the session with a thought-provoking take on carbon sequestration in tailings: "We are deeply connected to nature. The water in your veins comes from a river and will eventually return. Our buildings may create an illusion of separation, but nature remains a part of us." We wrapped up the day with a visit to the Mega Dam and a couple of reclaimed sites. A huge thank you to DRDGold & Stefanutti Stocks for hosting us and sharing their expertise! #LaRSSA #UNited4Land #Youth4Land #OurLandOurFuture #SustainableAgriculture #LandRestoration #buildingbeyondborders #UNUFLORES #ResourceNexus #G20GLI #WomenInRestoration #ClimateAction #WomenForThePlanet #GenerationRestoration #postmining #MineClosure #mining #closure #mineclosure #ICMM #IGFMining
