The Commonwealth Department of Finance recently sought comment on how an Australian Business should be defined for the purposes of Commonwealth Procurement. SME Gateway lodged a submission which ran to several pages, but in short, we have proposed that any definition of an Australian Business for the purposes of Commonwealth Procurement should include the following essential criteria: Must hold an ABN. Must operate a physical office in Australia. At least 50 % of the parent company’s headcount must be Australian citizens or residents. At least one Director must be an Australian citizen and resident. Must pay tax in Australia and meet the ATO definition of ‘carrying on an enterprise’ in Australia If you’re interested in making your own submission you only have until 5pm AEST tomorrow (25 October). The Government is developing a definition of an Australian business for use during Commonwealth procurement. The Department of Finance’s consultation paper provides an overview of the Commonwealth procurement framework and how they might use an Australian business definition within this context. We encourage the small-medium business community to comment on the proposed definition by 5pm on Friday 25 Oct at https://lnkd.in/g8VEPZhk
