SNAICC is the national non-government peak body in Australia representing the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families. Founded in 1981, SNAICC was established to engage in activities that promote and accommodate a strong voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families. Over the past 30 years SNAICC’s efforts have resulted in many key milestones and achievements both in policy developments at state, territory and federal levels and in developing innovative and useful resources for the sector. SNAICC is governed by an influential National Executive made up of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled children and families' services.

Close the Gap Day 2025. We cannot close the gap alone. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities have the solutions—but we need all governments to step up, honour their commitments, and work with us. “When all governments work with us, they not only empower communities but also drive better outcomes and lasting change.” – Catherine Liddle, CEO, SNAICC The latest Closing the Gap update is a wake-up call: 🔹 Only 1 in 3 of our children are developmentally on track for big school. 🔹 No progress in reducing the over-representation of our children in juvenile justice and child protection. Governments must act now—our children deserve better. It’s time to #CloseTheGap. #CloseTheGapDay #ClosingTheGap #OurChildrenOurFuture #SNAICC
New data from the Productivity Commission on Closing the Gap has shown a worsening trend in key areas for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children with targets in child protection, youth justice, suicide rates and school readiness heading backwards. The commitments to improving life outcomes for our children cannot continue to be just words, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children deserve better.
Much of the Mid North Coast of New South Wales is a childcare desert, where at least three children compete for an early learning and care place. There will be a particular focus on the healthcare workforce and the challenges facing essential workers when they can’t access care. Everyone in the community is encouraged to join. Family-friendly food and activities will be provided. RSVP here or walk-ins are welcome. FORUM DETAILS: WHEN: Saturday 29 March, 3pm – 5pm. Candidates will arrive at 4pm. When it comes to our mob, it's our mob who know best. Our CEO, Catherine Liddle spoke this morning on ABC News Breakfast about the strengths of community-led programs in addressing the issues that affect communities. Speaking in particular about the One Percent program that aims to improve the mental and physical health of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men.
The latest data coming from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) on Closing the Gap measures have shown that governments have made zero improvement in overturning the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in juvenile justice and child protection systems across Australia. It's time for governments to start upholding their commitments on Closing the Gap and start empowering Aboriginal led-solutions.
