Real action is needed for child safety, not another Royal Commission. Child abuse is far too prevalent in Australia, for all children. Singling out a Royal Commission into child sex abuse for Aboriginal communities is harmful and puts ideology before evidence. If Mr Dutton is really concerned about the safety of Aboriginal children, then he would be supporting the strengthening of community-controlled organisations, Aboriginal community-controlled early education and care, and be committing to bipartisan support for the National Commissioner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children have a right to be connected to their culture, identity and family. The proposed changes into how the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle is implemented in the Northern Territory will have adverse affects towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who are currently in the child protection system, going against numerous recommendations outlined in many reports into the prevention of another Stolen Generation.
