🎃👻 This Halloween, let's keep the spooky fun sustainable. As the Environment Protection Authority, we want to raise awareness about the environmental impact of our Halloween celebrations. With thousands of young (and not so young) people donning costumes and collecting treats, the amount of waste generated can be frightening. From discarded food wrappers to pumpkins ending up in landfills, it’s time to rethink our approach to this festive occasion. Here are some tips for a more eco-friendly Halloween: ✨ Carve real pumpkins and use the flesh in delicious recipes instead of letting them rot in the bin 👗 Visit your local op-shop for costume ideas, giving old clothes a spooky twist 🛍️ Reuse decorations from previous years or make your own to avoid new purchases 🍬 Choose locally produced treats with minimal or recyclable packaging 🎒 Use reusable bags for trick-or-treating—get creative with what you have at home 🌳 Compost and recycle as much waste as possible. Let’s make this Halloween not just fun, but also kind to our environment! Share your sustainable Halloween ideas with us! #SustainableHalloween #EPA #ReduceWaste

🌍 Happy United Nations Day! As we celebrate global cooperation, let’s focus on Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. This goal commits Australia to “making fundamental changes in the way that our societies produce and consume goods and services.” In response, the EPA has released a discussion paper to explore the issues and potential policy solutions that will help us transition to a more circular economy, creating less waste and recycling more. Read our discussion paper to find out some of the ways that SA can help meet this goal, and have YourSAy on the issue: https://lnkd.in/gVUSc3pt #EPA #UnitedNationsDay #SustainableDevelopmentGoals #YourSAy #CircularEconomy #WasteToResources

Since the Water Quality Policy commenced in January 2016, several areas of opportunity have emerged that have the potential to enhance protections of South Australia’s surface, marine and underground waters. The purpose of the Environment Protection (Water Quality) Policy 2015 Review discussion paper is to provide a review of the current policy and invite stakeholders to share their own perspectives on a specific set of questions posed in the paper. The discussion paper contains opportunities including improved water protections and better alignment with other marine codes and guidelines. Consultation is now open, and we invite you to have yourSAy on the discussion paper: https://ow.ly/pfRl50TJow7 #yoursay #waterquality

SA is transitioning to a more circular economy to improve and sustain our environment, increase our wellbeing, and grow our economic prosperity in a sustainable way. We need to replace the unsustainable ‘take–make–waste’ linear economy with circular, restorative approaches where waste is minimised.
