🚧 Engineering the Future of South Australia 🚧 I had the incredible honor of being the Keynote Speaker at the Young Engineers Australia SA Executive Breakfast. Especially as the theme was centered around one of my great passions, The Future of Engineering. See below for some key messages 🎤✨ #SouthAustralia has a strong pipeline due to investments in hydrogen, water, transport and defence. To meet this demand, we need to improve the diversity within our industry. Based on Engineers Australia research: 👉 Australia rates the 6th lowest for engineering graduates, with only 8.5% of graduates obtaining an engineering degree. 👉20% of Australia’s qualified engineers are not actively working in the engineering industry. 👉 Only 13% of working engineers in Australia are women, and just 16% of engineering graduates are women. 👉Despite accounting for almost two-thirds of qualified engineers in Australia, 47% of migrant engineers actively seeking a job are currently unemployed. We need to address the challenges associated with diversity within our industry to meet the demand for engineers, but also to drive the innovation, problem solving and better decision making required to address future challenges, all of which are proven outcomes of diverse teams. This current cohort of engineers will be the first to feel the impacts of climate change. We need to focus on sustainable urban planning, the development of green technologies, actively reducing the embodied carbon and embrace a circular economy to mitigate the impacts our profession has on the environment. 🌏 #Skill, #Diversity and #Environmental challenges will require the efforts of the entire profession. This is the crucial role that Engineers Australia will play. I encourage #YoungEngineers to get involved and contribute to the Voice of the Profession. Here are some ways that you can start: 🔹 Engage in Continuous Learning: Participate in workshops, webinars, and training programs to stay updated with the latest advancements in your field. 🔹Network and Collaborate: Building a strong professional network can open doors to new opportunities and collaborations. 🔹Advocate for Diversity and Inclusion: Get involved in initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion within the engineering profession. 🔹Contribute to Policy Discussions: Use your voice to influence policy decisions by participating in discussions and providing feedback through Engineers Australia. 🔹Mentorship and Leadership: Consider becoming a mentor to younger students or peers. Sharing your knowledge and experience can help others navigate their careers and contribute to the growth of the profession. Let’s continue to engage in continuous learning, advocate for diversity, and contribute to policy discussions to shape the future of engineering. Together, we can build a more diverse and sustainable future. 💪🌏 Julian, Beverley, Sabrina, Aditi, Yu-Han (Alice), Hamas, Sravan, Maryam,Jan Cara, Leah, Lucie

Our city is getting hotter. Street trees boost our canopy coverage which in turn cools our streets and makes Adelaide more climate resilient. We want more trees across our CBD streets and the Council is investigating which road upgrades could include more greenery, including Gawler Place and Blyth Street. Tell us your thoughts at the link: https://lnkd.in/gqZUcjDW
