We are beyond excited to score two impressive wins at the NAWIC SA Excellence Awards! The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is a leading institution that advocates for women in construction and related industries – and we’re thrilled to have earned this recognition from such an industry leading body! WGA took home the prestigious ‘Crystal Vision Award’ which celebrates individuals, businesses, or organisations that promote women’s participation and career progression in the industry. This award is recognition of the hard work, passion and dedication from everyone at WGA who make our business #theplacetobe, particularly our fabulous P&C team lead by Felicity van Ruth Plus, our very talented Senior Structural Engineer Jessica McGovern was awarded the 2024 ‘Contribution to Design Award’ recognising her role as the Lead Design Manger of South Australia's Flinders University - Health and Medical Research Building (HMRB) - what a win! Congratulations to all the NAWIC Award winners and nominees - it's safe to say our industry is in very good hands! #Awards #WGA #Engineers #Scientists #ProjectManagement #NAWICSA #NAWIC #WomeninEngineering #ThePlacetobe

  • Check out BHP’s new Clark Ore Bin at the Olympic Dam in South Australia! This vital piece of infrastructure connects the Clark Shaft to the conveyors that transport ore to the mills. It plays a major role in processing 70% of the ore produced from the underground mine. WGA’s teamwork and meticulous design meant that the completion of the installation had minimal downtime, finishing two days ahead of schedule! This allowed the team to tackle additional work to enhance operational efficiency. Our engagement in the project began with the Identification Phase study, providing the initial alternatives, and then the optimised design through Selection and Definition Phase studies. WGA’s smart solutions always aim to improve the project in meaningful ways. And the results? Our design included a rotatable bin base, allowing maintenance to be performed outside of shutdown periods. The rotatable bin base infrastructure was also optimised to remove the old bin and install a new one efficiently. What a win for everyone involved! What happens when you bring a room full of brilliant women in engineering and leadership together? Sparks of inspiration! Events like the recently concluded #WomeninEngineering Summit can be a live wire that ignite conversations on how women are driving change, breaking barriers and influencing the next generation of engineers. Currently, women barely make up 15% of the Australian engineering workforce. We are glad to see WGA’s engineers like Sheryll Ann Duguran taking action to work through challenges faced by women across the industry and making a difference for our future ladies in STEM! Sheryll took part as a panellist in the two-day conference, sharing her insights in an interactive discussion alongside engineering professionals from various disciplines across Australia to explore the latest developments, challenges, and opportunities in the industry. "Beyond the learnings, what I value most was the opportunity to connect with other like-minded women and potentially form life-long relationships", shared Sheryll.   #WomeninEngineering #MakingaDifference #Victoria #Empower #WIE2024 #STEM

  • AI has the potential to shake up the way we interpret, calculate, predict, and innovate – and the future of engineering cannot escape its influence. The American Society of Civil Engineers Australia and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) – Victoria Chapter recently teamed up to dive headfirst into this well-timed topic at an event held at the University of Melbourne. WGA’s Group Technical Manager, Jess Page was on the panel of speakers, sharing her expertise in AI, machine learning, data analytics, and more! "AI can be a good sounding board, but we don’t want to sacrifice quality or fairness - It’s another tool in our toolbelt, but we still need our judgment and creativity" added Jess.   Jess was in great company alongside industry representatives like Tom Wardley, Oystein Ulvestad, and Negin Yousefpour, PhD, PE. WGA's Geotechnical Lead, Lucie Missen who is also Australia Section President of the ASCE Australia, facilitated the event.   Take a look at how our Data Analytics services are reshaping engineering: https://lnkd.in/gRvu4vbk #WorkingSmarter #WGA #ArtificialIntelligence #Engineering

  • Where introductions spark conversation: meet david Lewis As a Senior Principal Structural Engineer in our WA operations, you might think David’s main interest was in putting buildings up. However, he’s quite keen on the other end of the building lifecycle, and lists ‘spectacular demolition projects’ as some of his career highlights. He’s currently (having probably too much fun) working on bringing down the decommissioned Kwinana Power Station. Much like dissecting bodies to learn anatomy, there’s a lot to be discovered in careful demolition. With David’s structural engineering expertise on your project, you can be assured of structures that are 100% fit for purpose, whatever your requirements. David embodies WGA’s ‘dare to be different’ philosophy in many ways, but on a daily basis the most evident is his cheerful collection of patterned shirts. He likes to challenge himself physically, recently by learning to surf, and also with regular cricket batting practice, with a bowling machine and net setup at home. Talk to David about your project requirements, or cricket: https://lnkd.in/gEzRphfV #Engineers #Placetobe #WesternAustralia

The stage is set, the lights are shining, and the seats are ready—Toorak College, Mt Eliza Community and Arts Precinct is all kitted up for creative flourish.   Perched on the backdrop of a 19th century-built historic Toorak college ground, this theatre comes with some stellar features! WGA is thrilled to have delivered Civil, and Structural design services adding a perfect touch of flair this project deserves. Here are a few:    🎭 Hanging Ceiling Rods and Façade Screen: Captivating from the get-go, with a unique ceiling design of suspended rods and a façade screen.     🎭 Retractable and Fixed Seating: Inside the auditorium features 384 retractable seats (telescopic platform), 229 fixed seats, and 145 loose seats, totalling 758 seats.     🎭 Precast Perimeter Walls: Standing 12 meter high on three sides of the auditorium, these walls help deliver some great sound insulation, acoustic control, fire resistance and structural strength. 🎭 Steel Roof Trusses: The auditorium roof holds a 6.5-meter cantilever beam with 1-meter outriggers supporting façade elements and ceiling rods    We can’t wait to see the remarkable talent that this theatre is prepared to reveal.
