Say hello to our new Fellows! Over the past 50 years, the Library has awarded more than $2.8 million to 196 Fellows who have gone on to become some of our most distinguished historians. Tonight we celebrated this rich legacy by announcing our largest-ever cohort of Fellows, who will be diving into the depths of our collection in 2025. Congratulations to all our Fellows and we look forward to supporting your research here at the Library. You can find more information about their projects here: https://lnkd.in/gxR8X35A

The State Library of New South Wales is a large reference and research library open to the public.
About us
The State Library of NSW collects and preserves materials and evidence relating to our place in the world and makes them accessible to everyone in New South Wales and beyond. The Library exists in order to support and encourage research, debate, conversation, inspiration, learning and enjoyment. We welcome all people and strive to serve them all equally well, whether they visit us in person on Macquarie Street, online, or through their local public library. There are more than six million items in the Library’s collection, including books, manuscripts, maps, photographs, paintings, architectural plans, objects and digital content. New materials are added every day, so that future generations will know their history. Almost one million readers and visitors walk through our doors each year to think, meet and work in our inspiring spaces. They use the collection, explore our galleries and enjoy our cultural and learning programs.

What discoveries have you made in our archives? Visiting scholar Jessica Urwin has been at the Library working on her project 'Radioactive Wildernesses: The Australian anti-uranium movement and the construction of wilderness on Mirrar land, 1972-77'. Jessica has been looking into our Rainbow Archives, a rich collection of photographs, papers and oral histories from Nimbin in the 1970s, as well as uranium protest ephemera. She says that "having the opportunity to explore these materials with the support of the Library and its expert staff has been invaluable." Join us next week on Wednesday 30 October from 6pm to celebrate 50 years of Fellowships, and be the first to meet our class of 2025! Free event, refreshments provided: https://ow.ly/8xpI50TS7Xy

Good luck to all the students starting their HSC exams! We see how hard you've been working, especially over the last few weeks. We hope that the free snacks and unicorn breaks offered a little bit of light relief during this stressful time. "As you head into exams, remember to believe in yourself, stay focused, and take it one step at a time. Regardless of the results, be proud of how far you've come. You've got this – and the State Library will always be here for you." says State Librarian Dr Caroline Butler-Bowdon.

Where would we be without libraries. ❤️ This #WorldMentalHealthDay we want to say a huge thank you to public libraries across the state, from Albury to Tweed Heads and everywhere in between. In NSW alone there are over 360 public libraries, providing vital services for their communities every day. From book clubs and language classes to storytime and creator studios, libraries help to provide that vital human connection that makes us feel a little less alone in the world. We’d love to know why you love your local library! Image: Maclean Library, Clarence Regional Library
