We're a food systems social enterprise dedicated to helping young people who need a hand.

About us

STREAT tackles the problem of youth disadvantage and homelessness by using its seven hospitality businesses to provide highly supported training and employment pathways for people aged 16 to 24. STREAT’s trainees all have very high needs and barriers to training and employment – including chronic homelessness, drug and alcohol dependency, family violence and mental health issues. Here’s the help we provide: Healthy self – wrap-around support including individual case management, linkages to specialist service providers as needed, group life skills programs, and creative and social activities. Healthy job – a range of hospitality programs including accredited Certificate II & III courses, and work experience programs. We also provide workplace training and mentoring for each young person across STREAT’s Melbourne cafes, bakery and kitchens. As a social enterprise, we reinvest 100% of our profits back into supporting and training our youth. Healthy home – we work towards our youth having a safe and long term place to live through partnerships with a wide range of housing services across Melbourne.

We are delighted to have been selected as a finalist for the Keep Australia Beautiful VIC Tidy Towns and Cities Sustainability Awards in the Behaviour Change Campaigns and Education category for our Siptember Campaign to reduce and eliminate single-use coffee cups. Having just finished our campaign for 2024 in September and successfully achieving a reusable rate of 56% across our cafes it's a great time to reflect on what we've achieved since Siptember started in 2019. We are honoured to be included amongst the other finalists who are doing amazing things and look forward to meeting everyone on October 28th when the winners are announced. Good luck to everyone involved!

We're thrilled to announce STREAT has a brand-new electric van to add to our green fleet! This next step aligns with STREAT’s vision to tread lightly on the planet in all of our businesses. We estimate this van will prevent us from emitting 1.4 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions through charging our van with renewable electricity (from a combination of rooftop solar and green energy) A huge thanks to our partners at RACV for their generous support in making this dream a reality! This milestone marks a significant achievement in STREAT’s journey, and we are deeply grateful for their support.

Our latest circular economy and sustainable living partnership with STREAT was an incredible experience! Participants at the Kitchen Alchemy: Kombucha and Cordial workshop learned the practical skills to quench their thirst and help the environment at the same time! Led by the inspiring duo of MAKE Studios Melbourne’s food system and low-waste cooking champion, Fiona Smith and STREAT's eco-chef Chris Locke, participants sampled delicious kombucha and cordial flavoured with mango skin, coffee grounds and citrus peels before learning how to make their own versions using a delectable array of food “scraps”. Rated an amazing 10 out 10 by participants, these workshops are part of our ongoing commitment to helping Australians reduce waste and embrace more circular and sustainable lifestyles, held at the #PurposePrecinct Moving Feast Victoria kitchen at Queen Victoria Market. Thanks to everyone who came along, your positive energy and sense of adventure made the experience a memorable one! We’re now preparing more workshops and events for individuals and teams that include low waste cooking, upcycling, recycling, behaviour change and more. Register your interest to be first to know - they sell out fast! https://lnkd.in/g7urN3Sm #VicGoesCircular #behaviourchange #foodsystems #foodwaste

Last Tuesday, we were thrilled to launch our SIPTEMBER campaign at our Gipps St STREAT Pantry, with support from RF Corval and Knight Frank Australia. We’re incredibly excited to have these organisations on board and are eager to see the positive environmental impact of having a reusable cup system within the building. STREAT provided an insightful overview of the campaign’s significance. Here are some key takeaways: 🗑️ In Australia, only 3–7% of coffee cups are reusable. ☕ Annually, a staggering 1.8 billion coffee cups are disposed of in Australia. At Gipps St Pantry, STREAT has implemented a convenient ‘loan’ system throughout the building, allowing tenants to borrow a keep cup. They return it at the end of the day or leave it on their floor for collection and cleaning overnight. Our goal is to boost our reusable cup usage to 30% at the Gipps Street cafe by making this process as easy as possible. We hope to inspire and empower individuals to embrace reusable cups. Thank you to everyone who joined us! We’re excited to see if Gipps St hits their 30% target! 🎯 #Siptember #Sustainability #ReusableCups #EnvironmentalImpact #STREAT #RFCorval #KnightFrank

🌱 Get ready—SIPTEMBER is just around the corner! Join us in driving impactful, lasting change for our planet. This year we're excited to be aiming high to increase reusable cup use across STREAT's sites to 40%, but to have the most impact we can't do it alone! Siptember is our annual campaign, run in September that is designed to foster sustainable habits by promoting the use of reusable cups for sipping throughout the month and beyond. 🙇♀️ If you sign up to Siptember we will send you through a ‘toolkit’ of all the assets you need to be involved. This includes posters, weekly impact reports and any useful information you need to host a successful Siptember campaign. 🥤 Last year we prevented 1,200 disposable coffee cups from going to landfill. This extrapolates to preventing more than 17,000 disposable coffee cups from going to landfill annually. 🖊️ Sign up as a hospitality or corporate business to join our campaign. Make the month of September matter and spread the word over socials! If you would like more information on our campaign find our webapge here: https://lnkd.in/gj2rianE or fill out the form: https://lnkd.in/gssvF3Tz
