The industry voice for Australia's purpose-built student accommodation sector.
About us
The Student Accommodation Council is the peak industry group for the purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) sector. A division of the Property Council of Australia, we exist to advocate for this critical asset class which houses over 78,000 students Australia wide. Ensuring a strong pipeline of PBSA beds reduces pressure on the broader residential rental market by providing a safe, student-only housing choice. Our advocacy priorities are to remove the barriers to growth in this alternative residential asset class and grow the sector Australia-wide.

The proposed visa caps of international students will only save the average metropolitan renter less than 1 per cent in rent, a new report from Mandala for the Student Accommodation Council reveals. “The student visa caps will have a very real economic impact, but have very little impact on rental availability,” Student Accommodation Council Executive Director Torie Brown said. “We would be better off focussing on increasing the supply of purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA), which has already demonstrated an extraordinary ability to match the demand from international students."
