Studio M Collective is beyond thrilled to witness this historic moment in Aged Care reform that happened the last week! The introduction of a new rights-based Aged Care Act is not just a step forward—it’s a monumental leap towards a future where older Australians are prioritised and receive the care they deserve. Congratulations to the Aged & Community Care Providers Association and Tom Symondson for their tireless advocacy. Your dedication has paved the way for this transformative change. Change is coming! This reform signifies the beginning of a new era in Aged Care Sector, one that addresses the urgent needs of our aging population. It’s not just about legislation; it’s about creating a system that values people, their dignity, and their right to quality care. We're honoured to be part of this sector, and we are energised by the possibilities this reform holds for the future. Of course, there’s more work to be done, Chanelle Perkins and the team at Studio M Collective believes this is a step in the right direction for every older Australian and those who care for them. Together, we are building an Aged Care system that not only meets but exceeds expectations, and we couldn’t be prouder to contribute to this journey.

In breaking news, both sides of the Australian government have reached bipartisan agreement on historic reforms that will be vital to all Australians now and in the future. A new, rights-based Aged Care Act was the number one recommendation of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, and the Act will also deliver on dozens of other recommendations. It’s hoped these reforms will bring structured and sustainable financial security to the sector, leading to a vibrant, growing aged care system, that meets the needs of older Australians now and in the future. We're excited to share an update on our upcoming project, Rockpool Residential Aged Care Oxley in Brisbane, set to be ready for commissioning in early 2025. This will be the fourth Rockpool build for McNab, and the synergy we've developed with the same builders and trades over the years has truly enhanced our collaboration. Working together so closely means we don’t need to relearn lessons from previous projects; instead, we build on our shared experiences and grow as a team. A big thank you to Rockpool Residential Aged Care and gjg architects for partnering with us to bring your vision to life and for your commitment to transforming the experience of aged care. We can't wait to see this project come to fruition and continue our journey of innovation together!

Nestled amidst the picturesque landscape of the Huon Valley, Bedford House stands as a cherished historical residence, overlooking the serene Huon River. With decades of history within one family, the home awaited thoughtful redesign to suit its new owners. Studio Director Chanelle Perkins believes that a home embodies personal narratives and resonant storytelling, where interiors unfold like a living tale. Our goal was to transform Bedford House into a sanctuary, allowing our clients to escape their daily lives and find solace amidst the home's natural beauty and historical charm. This transformation aimed to unveil the unique story of the owners while ensuring the home could grow alongside them. Central to the overall vision was a commitment to showcasing local artistic talent. Over 20 Tasmanian artists were carefully selected to adorn every corner of the home, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Tasmania and the Huon Valley through carefully curated artworks and objects d’art. The design approach balanced scale and intimacy, creating spaces that could host gatherings yet offer moments of quiet contemplation. Inspired by the vibrant Huon community, we integrated bold design choices, contrasting fabrics, unique vintage pieces, and a curated array of layered interiors that imbue the home with a sense of curated yet lived-in authenticity. Collaborating closely with our clients, Studio M Collective embarked on a journey to redefine Bedford House. Every detail, from layout and furnishings to materials and décor, was meticulously chosen to reflect the unique narrative of its new inhabitants. This project has been announced as a finalist in the Residential Interior Curation category for the 2024 IDEA Awards.

As we wrapped up last year, the team at Studio M had the honour of completing the Award-winning Rockpool Residential Aged Care Pelican Waters project. What an achievement it was! Our goal for Rockpool Residential Aged Care Pelican Waters was to design a beautiful space that meets operational needs while reflecting Rockpool's dedication to aged care. We aimed to blend functionality with aesthetics, creating a supportive care environment that evokes joy and confidence for both residents and staff. Studio M’s meticulous attention to detail ensured every element, from spatial layouts and joinery to finishes and decor, reflected Rockpool’s unique identity. We explored conventional urban typologies and carved out a unique landscape for Rockpool Pelican Waters. Our aim was to create beautiful domestic interiors while addressing and supporting the complex needs of the residents as they age. Rockpool Pelican Waters is revolutionising the perception and experience of aged care. It has become a vital part of the local community, offering opportunities for meaningful connections with both residents and the wider community. The Marsden Park Care Community commissioned in October 2023. It has surpassed the original brief and expectations through collaborating to deeply understand the ageing process, and person-centred design applied to a care setting. This is evidenced by feedback from the Client, Residents, and the Resident outcomes. Studio M Collective collaborated with Opal Healthcare to derive a concept which promotes comfort, independence, engagement, and safety in a “home-like environment”, underpinned by Opal HealthCare’s purpose which is “to bring joy to those we care for” and CARE values:“Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.” Colour continues to significantly influence our daily lives, impacting individuals mind, body, and mood. Our colour strategies directly address the functional challenges of ageing and are designed to enhance social interaction, and engagement, and intimate and calming environments. Implementing these strategies helps Residents age with respect and grace, fostering healthy and active lives within a safe, communal and domestic environment. We provide visual cues for those who require it, while being subtly integrated for those who do not. We take pride in supporting the wellbeing of our residents, creating environments that nurture sense of self, community and enable residents to live well in their Care Community. At Studio M, our philosophy is to create homes where individuals can live enriched lives and receive exceptional care. Our mission is to ease the challenges of aging while fostering confidence and independence. Collaborating with Opal Healthcare has allowed us to embrace color strategies that create beautiful and meaningful interiors, promoting well-being. In May, our director Chanelle Perkins attended the 15th Ageing Asia Innovation Forum in Singapore. This event brought together leaders in business, government, and communities to showcase the world’s most innovative care models, focusing on Healthy Ageing, Independent Ageing, and Dignified Ageing. This year's theme was "Redefining Care: Activating Communities of the Future." Chanelle had the pleasure of hearing from esteemed professionals such as Dr. Jun Sasaki, Stefan Ege, EZ Bala, Martyn Craddock, Philip Heng, John Collyns, Nathaniel Farouz 高天禮, Tom Symondson, Andreas Jager, and Joe Sham @joe sham. They discussed the various approaches countries are adopting in care environments worldwide. Tough questions were raised about how we can meet the growing need for care environments and manage the ever-evolving complexities of ageing populations. There are incredible individuals in our industry who are revolutionising the design, creation, and operation of care environments. We am thrilled to be part of this industry and witness the positive changes taking place. We can always improve, grow, and do better. Asking these important questions sparks conversations, encourages critical thinking, and propels us forward. Change is coming, Studio M are ready to continue advancing and creating better outcomes for our communities.
