🎉 Last week we welcomed international students, education providers and community services at the 2025 Study NT International Student Welcome Reception, held at Charles Darwin University 's new city campus, the Danala Community Space. It was a lovely evening, celebrating and welcoming our newly arrived international students to their beautiful new home in Australia's Northern Territory. The event was filled with face painting, laughter and excitement. This #internationalwomensday, we're proud to celebrate the achievements of one of our 2025 Student Ambassadors, Nithya Romeshika Yamasinghe. 🤩 In 2023, Nithya decided to leave her full-time job as a Software Engineer in Sri Lanka and move to Darwin to pursue a Master of Information Technology (Software Engineering) at Charles Darwin University. 🛫 Nithya mentioned that Darwin's supportive and inclusive environment made the challenges of starting over worthwhile. Along with her studies, she has taken on multiple positions and job opportunities at CDU, allowing her to contribute to the community while enhancing her skills. As the President of the Women's Collective for Innovation and Change (WCIC) and Vice President of the CDU Information Technology Students' Association (ITSA), she has worked to create platforms for collaboration and support, ensuring students feel connected and empowered. 👏👏 Nithya regularly volunteers with Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation NT, Australian Red Cross, CareFlight NT, Kindness Shake and Inspired NT and has received various certificates of appreciation for her tireless efforts. She was also a Study NT International Student of the Year Award 2024 finalist, NT Digital Excellence Awards 2024 winner, CDU IT Code Fair Business Innovation Challenge winner and the Chief Minister's Young Volunteer of the Year Award nominee 2024. 🏆 🎉 Nithya's journey reflects her dedication, perseverance and passion for fostering growth and inclusivity into meaningful initiatives.
