"I've learned so much from this experience. It's been incredibly rewarding and I'm grateful for the opportunity." Meet Jade, a participant in The Foundry by SYC's Career Grit program, who is now thriving in her employment at a local lunch bar. After personalised career coaching, she approached her trial shift with confidence. Despite initial setbacks due to travel concerns, Jade relocated and subsequently returned for a paid trial shift, impressing the store owners with her enthusiasm. Kathy, the lunch bar owner, shares, “Jade has really begun to grow and bloom. She is coming out of her shell and building confidence day by day. We are delighted to have her on our team!" The Career Grit program at the Foundry by SYC offers personalised mentoring to help young people build essential skills and discover their passions and strengths. We’re proud to support participants like Jade and can’t wait to see what her future holds! To read more about Jade’s story visit: https://lnkd.in/gFubQ2UC #SYC #soyoucan

We’re thrilled to highlight the incredible achievements of our students in SYC’s Flexible Learning Options (FLO) program at our Studio East and Education and Training Hub locations. At Studio East, one of our students recently celebrated a major milestone by completing their journey with us. Despite facing challenges like inconsistent attendance, mental health issues and housing instability, this student exited the program equipped with an impressive trio of qualifications and the skills for successful independence. Meanwhile, at the Education and Training Hub, two students proudly showcased their barista skills after completing SYC’s Barista Accreditation Short Course. They impressed attendees at the Northern Jobs Expo, receiving glowing feedback and job offers on the spot! Happy International Pronouns Day! Today, we celebrate the importance of respect and understanding around personal pronouns. Pronouns help us refer to one another without using names. Whilst many of us are familiar with gendered pronouns like she/her and he/him, it’s equally important to embrace gender-neutral options. Using the correct pronouns is a simple yet powerful way to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels seen and respected. It encourages us to avoid assumptions based on appearances or voices. To learn more about pronouns, explore this informative guide from Minus18 https://bit.ly/4f4wHX3 #PronounsDay #SYC #SoYouCan

Today is World Mental Health Day! This year’s theme, ‘It is Time to Prioritise Mental Health in the Workplace,’ couldn’t be more relevant. With 1 in 5 Australian workers facing mental health challenges, it’s essential to create a supportive environment for everyone. At SYC, we believe that every team member deserves a workplace that supports their mental health. Today, our teams celebrated this WMHD’S call to action with team lunches, mindfulness sessions and creative activities that highlighted the importance of supporting one another. Mental health matters every day. Today, we were reminded to prioritise our own wellbeing and extend that care to others. If you or someone you know is struggling, remember that support is available. For further details, please refer to the resources provided or reach out to your GP or a health professional. #WorldMentalHealthDay2024 #SYC #soyoucan

We recently attended the Future Ready: Foundation Skills and Apprenticeship Forum in Adelaide! Hosted by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, Future Ready plays a vital role in helping students successfully transition from school to further education, training and work. Representing SYC, Wayne and Lisa discussed our new Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program and participated in a Q&A panel for Australian Apprenticeship Support Services. The forum provided a valuable opportunity to connect with other providers across the state and explore ways to enhance support for our participants and apprentices. SYC proudly delivers the new Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program in the Murray and South East Region of South Australia and Australian Apprenticeship Support Services across South Australia, Victoria and Queensland.
