People living with a disability have a fear of discrimination when it comes to sharing information of their disability with a potential employer. Most likely because they have unfortunately experienced discrimination in the past. As a Nation there are signs of positive changes in the diversity and inclusion space, however, statistics indicate that what is being done, is not enough. The latest statistics released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare indicated that 46% of the complaints received by the Human Rights Commission in 2022-23 were about disability discrimination. A more staggering statistic highlighting the need for drastic change for the way disability is viewed in our workplaces and communities can be seen through the fact that in 2018, 44% of respondents who live with disability said that they avoided situations because of their disability. As employers we can create safe spaces to share information. Learn more about how here: https://ow.ly/IVRU50TBS60

More Australians are requiring digital skills, such as the ability to quickly learn how to use office software, in order to enter the workforce and find fulfilling, sustainable employment. A 2021 report by RMIT University found that 87% of jobs in Australia require digital literacy skills, while four in five businesses think it’s a priority to adopt new technologies to achieve business goals, a need which will only increase. However, 1 in 4 Australians reported feeling they didn’t have the skills required for the jobs of tomorrow. “Digital literacy skills are essential in the modern workforce, across a wide variety of roles – whether you’re working in administration in an office, or operating equipment in a warehouse,” said Shaun Pianta from atWork Australia. “We help Australians increase their digital literacy by providing training and short courses for those seeking employment. We also encourage those looking for work to practice using technology at home – for example, by catching up with a friend on a Zoom call, rather than the phone – to increase their understanding.” Hear from our client, 62-year-old Glen here: https://ow.ly/jLcq50TBRU0
