📽️Watch #UnlockTheEveryday‘s amazing new campaign film to learn more about how #AssistiveTechnology unlocks opportunities for all! Today, 2.5 billion people need at least one form of assistive product - and access to it is a human right. But today only 10% of people in low-income countries can access the AT they need. 🦽🦻👓📱🦿 In celebration of the first ever World Day for Assistive Technology, we’re shining a light on this inequity and the urgent need for people to access affordable assistive technology such as wheelchairs, eyeglasses, hearing aids, prosthetics and digital devices that enable people to live independent lives – to study, work and enjoy the everyday moments that many of us take for granted. 📌 Themed week on #Vision for #WorldSightDay 🌎👓 Day 3 💯Did you know? Billions of people need glasses but just 36% can access them? Our latest report, developed with the Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI), explains that some 90 percent of the unmet need for eyeglasses is in low- and middle-income countries, and yet consumer prices are too high for many. However prices can often be brought down by reducing import taxes, logistical costs, and distributor or retail margins. 👉This is why we call for a reduction of import taxes, logistical costs, and distributor or retail margins to make eyeglasses more accessible. Read our one-stop guide to assistive products for buyers, donors, and policymakers. 📚🔗To read the full report and its #Accessible versions visit our website: https://ow.ly/Toyp50TKu9v 🔗🔎Make sure to visit ATscale youtube channel and discover how together, we can enhance the quality of life for billions of people: https://ow.ly/QI3j50TKu9u #UnlockTheEveryday #ATChangesLives #Vision #Eyeglasses #LoveYourEyes CBM Christian Blind Mission International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) Light for the World UNICEF World Health Organization Sightsavers VisionSpring EYElliance The Fred Hollows Foundation RestoringVision Global Disability Innovation Hub UNOPS International Disability Alliance

📌 Themed week on #Vision for the #WorldSightDay 🌎👓 Day 2 People with vision impairments in #Vietnam can now use "Vi Vu" TTS Voice, a text-to-speech software in the Southern dialect! This initiative is part of ATscale’s broader effort to develop text-to-speech (TTS) voices for under-represented languages and dialects to foster global digital inclusivity. #ATscale identified the need for these voices to address the commercial limitations faced by private IT companies, which have left many under-represented languages and dialects without adequate TTS support. The development of "Vi Vu" was a collaborative effort involving UNICEF, UNICEF Viet Nam, the ATscale partnership, Sao Mai Centre for the Blind, and LouderPages (producers of RH Voice). #AssistiveTechnology improves digital literacy, #accessibility to essential information, opening up educational and professional opportunities. 🔍Discover more on this initiative and read the article here 👉 https://uni.cf/3yv0KaI Together, let’s make #AssistiveTechnology available and #accessible for all those who need it! #UnlockTheEveryday #Inclusivity #ATChangesLives #LoveYourEyes #WorldSightDay2024

📌 Themed week on #Vision for #WorldSightDay 🌎👓 Day 2 👉 Meet Sreyleap! She blinks as she walks with her mother to a vision centre in #Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh, which is supported by The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ. The 10-year-old, from Ream village in Preah Sihanouk province, is sensitive to bright light and struggles to read anything more than five metres away. In October last year, Sreyleap attended an eye clinic at the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital in Phnom Penh where she was diagnosed with low vision, myopia and exotropia, a type of eye misalignment, where one or both eyes turn outward. Following a comprehensive eye examination, Sreyleap received prescription glasses from the hospital. The treatment has been life-changing for Sreyleap, whose eye issues first surfaced when she was just six months old. 🔶 Now in Grade 2 at Sman Den Primary School, Sreyleap is able to read and see objects more clearly! She performs well at school, can play with her friends. Sreyleap will continue to need regular eye exams and treatment in the future. But because of the diagnosis and treatment she received, Sreyleap’s future's looking bright. 📌 To help remove the economic barriers that prevent children like Sreyleap from accessing eye care, The Fred Hollows Foundation has been working in partnership with the Government of Cambodia on the Scaling UpRefractive Error Services (SURES) project. The project was funded by USAID in support of ATscale. #UnlockTheEveryday #ATChangesLives #Vision #Eyeglasses #LoveYourEyes #WorldSightDay2024

This World Sight Day emphasizes the importance of eye care for young people. Eyeglasses are critical for learning and improve well-being and livelihood. As countries increasingly focus on prevention, opportunities arise to integrate targeted, cost-effective vision screening. Together with partners ATscale, the Global Partnership for Assistive Technology, EYElliance, The Fred Hollows Foundation, Livelihood Impact Fund, OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation, Peek Vision, RestoringVision and Vision Catalyst Fund, CHAI is working with governments in Cambodia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Uganda to cost-effectively scale access to glasses, leveraging the existing workforce. We are working in other countries to support access to assistive technology, providing a platform for expanding this work. #WorldSightDay #CHAI #AssistiveTech #Accessibility Photo credit: Eyelliance
