The findings in this report justify stronger policy support for the housing co-operative sector to play a more significant role in Australia's housing system. While the costs of the co-operative sector are generally on par with other forms of community housing, the report demonstrates that 'tenant-members' gain more benefits including: -> Skills development -> Employment and educational outcomes, as a result of that skills development -> Satisfaction with housing stability, quality, and security -> Greater social capital -> Sense of health and wellbeing, including that of children -> Sense of agency, empowerment, and voice Congratulations to our team member Sidsel Grimstad and other co-authors on the release of this report. Absolutely thrilled and honoured to launch the report 'The Value of Housing Co-operatives in Australia' on Friday 15th, starting with a wonderful Acknowledgement of Country by Aunty Gail Smith. Rebecca Pinkstone provided a great response to the report, which was formally and thoughtfully launched by Charishma Kaliyanda. Louise Crabtree-Hayes and Neil Perry gave an overview of the findings, followed by a panel including Nick Sabel, Liz Thomas, Yvonne Jenkins, and Sarah Anderson. Huge thanks to all of our honourable guests, speakers, and partners, and to all the co-operative tenant-members and other guests online and in the room, for attending and creating such a productive conversation. Lastly, huge thanks to the professional team at the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) for bringing it all together so seamlessly.

For those of you wanting to know the nuts and bolts, we have released a technical report that explains the methodology and provides the research tools behind the main report for 'The Value of Housing Co-operatives in Australia'.

The project report 'The Value of Housing Co-operatives in Australia' is now available online. It presents the first data set on affordable rental housing co-operatives across New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria, and Western Australia. Building on and amending previous cost-consequences frameworks, it demonstrates the extent of work that tenant-members contribute to their co-operatives, the benefits experienced by tenant-members, and connections between these. It highlights the role of co-operativism and participation in driving beneficial housing outcomes and the value of a diverse housing co-operative sector.
