Meet Darryl! He’s one of our dedicated volunteers here at the Wesley. With a passion for art and a background as a diversional therapist working at BlueCare, Darryl jumped at the opportunity to join our team of voluntary art curators earlier this year. The team of three is made up by Caroline and Kathy, and together they take care of our collection of art which includes some pieces which have been generously donated. They take pride in creating displays of art throughout the hospital with the goal of helping to improve the experience of our patients. “I love the individuality of art, the personal expression and the joy it can bring people. I really like the concept of art therapy, and I’m interested in the holistic care the hospital provides. Art is a part of that,” Darryl said. “I’m looking forward to assisting with the cataloguing of the collection, which has been a long and arduous task, and helping to maintain and take good care of the pieces. It’s so nice when patients and visitors comment on the artwork, it really does bring some joy to their stay in hospital.” #TheWesleyHospital #weloveourvolunteers

It's National Safe Work Month, a time employers and workers across Australia commit to creating safe and healthy workplaces. Here, Luke, our Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisory Team Leader for UnitingCare Hospitals, shares his "safety why". 🤩 "My safety why is my family and friends and being able to go home to them safely every night. "There are number of reasons why I chose WHS as a profession, the biggest being my family. I come from a family of healthcare workers, from catering staff, orderlies, nurses, admin and management. "I have seen the toll the industry can take on its workers' bodies and minds and since I have worked in healthcare, I have seen some amazing people who put others' health before their own day in and day out. "I chose this profession to support those people and so they can go home to the people they love safely every day." The Wesley Hospital is proudly part of the UnitingCare family. #NationalSafeWorkMonth #SafetyIsOurBusiness #TheWesleyHospital #Caringforyouforlife

Happy Allied Health Professionals Day! ⭐ 💜 Today we celebrate all of the professions and team members who make up our allied health team, including occupational therapists, speech pathologists, dietitians, physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, psychologists, allied health assistants and administrators. Through their diverse and wonderful work, our allied health team cares for patients across the patient journey and they have a big impact on improving the health and wellbeing of those we care for. To mark the day, the team participated in a series of physical, cognitive and emotional challenges including crutches relay, guess the ingredient, emotions charades and a thinking pattern challenge, among others. To all the team, thanks for making a difference in the lives of our patients each and every day! #TheWesleyHospital #AlliedHealthProfessionalsDay
