As Engineering becomes more diverse, what barriers still exist for women and other minorities in the field? This question, and more like it, will offer insight to young women considering a career in engineering at the University of New South Wales Civil and Environmental Engineering Society (CEVSOC UNSW) Women in Civil Engineering Networking Event. TTW appreciates the benefits of maintaining relationships with Universities, as it allows us to stay connected with the next generation of forward-thinking engineers, and this is why we are excited that our talented Director, Nishmin Hallam, and Senior Traffic Engineer, Maria Mulholland will represent TTW at the event, hosted at Laing O'Rourke's Head Office in North Sydney, on Wednesday 19 March. With over 20 years at TTW and decades of industry experience, Nish will join the panel for the Q&A session, sharing her insights on career progression, industry challenges, and how we can foster more supportive and inclusive workplaces for women in engineering. We're looking forward to a great evening with CEVSOC UNSW! Tickets available here: https://hubs.li/Q03bdL1d0 #TTW #YourPartnerInEngineering #WomenInEngineering #CEVSOC #UNSW

Marching forward, breaking boundaries, and supporting women in STEM were all key topics discussed in our webinar celebrating women in engineering with some of the female engineers in our team, in honour of International Women's Day. In our discussion, we explored how we can create an inclusive culture that empowers women to thrive in engineering and leadership roles, challenges for women in engineering, returning from parental leave, mentoring and networking and how we increase the number of women and girls into STEM careers. From championing gender balance to fostering new opportunities, we are dedicated to breaking down barriers and paving the way for future generations of women in STEM. A special thank you to our engineers, Raelene McDonell MIEAust CPEng NER RPEQ, Jessica Robles, Sindhu Murali and Susan Vagg for sharing your insights and knowledge with our team! #IWD2025 #MarchForward #TTW

Climate Action Week Sydney kicks off Monday, and with it, our Sustainability specialist, Hannah Jones will weigh in as an industry leader on the panel for the Australia’s Opportunity as a True Green Iron Manufacturer: Headwinds and Tailwinds event. As part of a highly complex supply chain spanning multiple market sectors, steelmaking, and subsequently ironmaking, faces challenges due to inconsistent demand signals. Hannah believes that with the growing global demand for low-emission materials, building awareness across the entire supply chain is crucial to enable rapid decarbonisation. In this panel conversation, and her role as Co-Chair of the Materials & Embodied Carbon Leaders’ Alliance Steel Working Group, she hopes to support a shared understanding of upstream and downstream processes and challenges to facilitate the market’s ability to respond to or drive demand for low-carbon steel. What a team! A huge congratulations to our incredible Victorian team who took on the challenge and completed the Melbourne Teams Corporate Triathlon charity triathlon over the weekend, for the second year running. Our teams completed both the full, and fun relays, pushing their limits while strengthening team bonds 💪 Their determination and teamwork not only saw them cross the finish line but also helped raise vital funds for Launch Housing whose goal is to help end homelessness in Australia. We’re so proud of their efforts and the generous support from our community - well-done everyone involved! #TTW #YourPartnerInEngineering #MelbourneTeamsCorporateTriathlon

A testament to the combined vision of a collaborative, solutions-focused and creative team, the Blacktown Exercise and Sport Technology (BEST) Hub has taken home not one, but FIVE gold awards at the global BETTER FUTURE Awards. 🏆 Australian Design Awards – Architecture – Community and Civic 🏆 Gov Design Awards – Architecture – Community and Civic 🏆 Sydney Design Awards – Architecture – Public and Institutional 🏆 World Design Awards – Architecture – Public and Institutional 🏆 World Design Awards – Architecture – Community and Civic Designed for Blacktown City Council, the project was developed to be an internationally significant sporting precinct for high-performing athletes by bringing together world-class medical and rehabilitation services with facilities for further research and education purposes. The project uniquely incorporated a complex three-dimensional façade which required a collaborative design approach integrating bespoke and adaptable structural supports for the deep glassfibre reinforced concrete façade panels. Each panel, with a striking three-dimensional sinusoidal curved face, was positioned across the entirety of the curving using an approach that helped future-proof the building’s sustainability and energy efficiency. We were proud to collaborate on this landmark sports facility and congratulate all involved. We actively encourage our engineers to extend their knowledge beyond their day-to-day operations, in ways that suit them best. We are excited to announce that one of our Senior Structural Engineers from our Heritage Engineering team, Olivia Britt, has been selected for the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) 2025 Scholarship training program. Olivia is one of only four building professionals selected by the SPAB for the 2025 cohort. She will spend nine months traveling across the UK, learning on-site from specialist craftspeople and building conservation experts to gain the skills and knowledge needed to work with traditional buildings. This will undoubtedly be a transformative experience for Olivia, and we congratulate her on such an exciting achievement. We look forward to updating you on Olivia’s progress throughout her journey and can't wait for her return as her new knowledge will be invaluable to our Heritage Engineering team. #TTW #YourPartnerInEngineering #SocietyForTheProtectionOfAncientBuildings #Scholarship

History, sustainability and public engagement have been brought together in the development of Kaleidoscope Boh Beh Kang, a new award-winning community node design for the Rail Corridor in Queenstown, Singapore. We're proud to have contributed our Civil and Structural Engineering teams' expertise to the project, the First Prize winner in the Queensway Node Design Competition, organised by Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore (URA) in collaboration with Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA). Designed as a kaleidoscopic tunnel along the Rail Corridor, the project creates an immersive experience that weaves Queenstown's rich history with a dynamic and community-focused design. The vision celebrates the past through heritage exhibits, artefacts, and storytelling elements while integrating flexible, multi-purpose spaces for reflection, performances, and daily activities. Launched in September 2024, the Queensway Node Design Competition invited multi-disciplinary teams to propose innovative designs for the Queensway node, a significant public space at the heart of Queenstown, linking Tanglin Halt, Mei Chin, and Queensway estates. Working alongside Designshop Pte Ltd, HKS, Inc., DN+O Engineers LLP, and DLS Consultancy Pte Ltd, COEN Design International and Lichtvision Design, our Singapore-based team was honoured to be part of a team that delivered a compelling proposal, taking out the top prize for what will become a critical and vibrant gathering space for the community. Congratulations to all involved - we look forward to seeing Kaleidoscope Boh Beh Kang become a key destination along the Rail Corridor.
