A huge shoutout to Costco Wholesale Australia for their incredible 2024 Workplace Giving Campaign! Throughout October, 15 warehouses and 2 offices across Australia hosted morning teas with representatives from 15 of their charity partners, including ourselves at UWA. 🙌 It was a fantastic opportunity for Costco staff to learn more about the impactful work we all do. A massive thank you to the generous employees for their donations and to Costco for matching every contribution. 💙 And let’s not forget the delicious ‘Costco’ cakes that were a big hit! 🎂 RSPCA Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation Mission Australia Cancer Council Canberra Hospital Foundation Good Friday Appeal Mater Foundation (Qld) Beyond Blue Perth Children Hospital Red Cross Women’s & CHildren’s Hospital (Adelaide) John Hunter Children’s Hospital Hummingbird House (Qld) United Way Australia #costco #WPGmonth #unitedwayaus #workplacegiving

About us
Our Vision is that every Australian community thrives. We are passionate about supporting children and young people at critical life stages. Our key initiative, READ LEARN SUCCEED, operates across many geographically and culturally diverse communities. Development of early literacy skills and school readiness is supported through the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Youth employment and career development are promoted through school and business partnerships. UWA addresses entrenched disadvantage with a place-based approach. The Hive in Mt Druitt, Sydney is a collaboration with the community to help children start school well. Our goal is to bring about community and systems change and break the cycle of disadvantage. UWA is a not-for-profit company registered in Australia, has DGR1 status and is also a Public Benevolent Institution. UWA has been operating in Australia for more than 50 years and is governed by a local Board of Directors. UWA is part of a global network of 1800 local United Way organisations in over 40 countries. Our common aim is to identify and resolve pressing community issues and make measurable changes in communities through collaborative partnerships. How are you getting involved in National Shared Reading Week? 📚 Running from 28 October - 3 November, it’s the perfect opportunity to talk about your favourite books and share them with others. At UWA we know how impactful a book can be to build brighter futures, but shared reading can also create stronger communities and connections! Statistician & Senior Impact Analyst at United Way Australia, and Patron of National Shared Reading Week, Claire Galea, shared the impact this can have on early years children by sharing, “Shared book reading can ignite a child’s love of books and stories as well as enhance their early language and literacy skills, setting them on a trajectory to become successful readers!” 📖💬 So this week, let’s get involved in shared reading and build a brighter future through books💙 #NationalSharedReadingWeek #unitedwayaus #earlychildhoodliteracy

Welcome to the United Way Australia family, Siena! 🎉 We’re thrilled to introduce our newest intern, Siena Popiel, who joins us all the way from the United States! Currently studying political science at the University of Utah, Siena is passionate about learning and exploring new horizons. With experience working with the Utah state government, conducting research, and even founding their own non-profit, Siena brings an incredible wealth of knowledge and passion to our team! 🙌 This is their first time in Australia, and Siena is looking forward to both exploring Sydney and diving into their work with United Way. Outside of work, you’ll find Siena: 🧘♂️ Practising yoga 🧗 Rock climbing 📚 Or diving into a good book (especially if it's fantasy, horror, or romance!) We can’t wait to hear all about their adventures in Sydney and are so excited about the incredible contributions they’ll make to our work. Welcome again, Siena!

CEO’s and senior leaders from the Macquarie Park Business Community Partnership came together recently for a fantastic catch up. Together we reflected on the incredible initiatives they’ve been supporting, including Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which is now reaching more than 1,000 children in the local Ryde community to develop a love for reading and helping them start school ready to learn 📚 💖 From high school mentoring to industry visits, the positive stories from the volunteers and the students have been really inspiring. And the highlight? Hearing from Claire Galea, PhD Researcher, about her groundbreaking global research on the impact of the Imagination Library - the largest early literacy research ever undertaken globally! 🌍📖We can’t wait to share more of this with you. Thank you for your ongoing support and passion for the cause Susan Martin David Tudehope Reggie Cabal Andy Berry Anne Paredes Fionán Mc Donnell @kateking Matt Formston Claire Galea Grace Pestonji Clayton Noble Liz Carnabuci 💙

A huge thank you to the amazing mentors who dedicated their time to support Plumpton High School and Marsden High School during their Year 10 Mock Interview Days! 🌟 These sessions play a crucial role in helping students gain confidence and build practical interview skills. For many, this was their very first interview experience – a milestone that can be nerve-wracking, especially when speaking to someone new and answering personal questions. But thanks to our mentors, students had a safe environment to practice and receive valuable feedback. 💬 For our mentors, the experience was equally rewarding as they were able to: ✅ Share their interview tips – both from their own experience as interviewees and interviewers ✅ Engage with the next generation of talent as they prepare to step into the workforce We're excited for these students as they embark on their career journeys, and we wish them all the best as they enter the workforce! 💼 #medtroinc #macquarietechnologygroup #techdata #ORIX #johnsonandjohnson
