  • Meet Tess Ellett, our wonderful Fundraising Stewardship Manager. Tess' journey with nature started early — she grew up with a family, leaders in their own ways, that loved the bush, seeing it as an extension of themselves... "The bush was where we celebrated, and where we commemorated. Now, I raise my own daughter in Naarm / Melbourne on the Wurundjeri lands of the Kulin Nation, just a short walk from the misty Yarra River. But a lot has changed on our planet since that first camping trip. The very spot where I first swam has been bulldozed and turned into wood chips. People loved and cared for that bush. People fought to save it, but they lost. This is why communities like ours are so important. We need more people loving, caring and fighting for our bush and climate. We need more communities to care for and celebrate our planet. We need more women and gender-diverse leadership. We need more people like you." • 🌿 It's Time to #TurnThePageOnClimate 🌿 Throughout history, women have led and responded with courage and vision, from the forefront of every crisis. Today, we drive the transformation towards a cleaner future. That's why, joined by 83 brilliant leaders from women’s networks across the world, WELA is calling on the U.S. and global leaders to turn the page and move forward on climate change in the lead-up to COP29. Published as a full page in the New York Times on Sunday 29th September, the letter encourages sustained U.S. leadership and action on climate finance in a time when many other news topics continually eclipse climate action. We have seen hope re-emerge at the UN this week, as global leaders reaffirmed their commitment to act on the climate crisis, transition away from polluting fossil fuels, and back an overhaul of the international financial architecture. While progress has been made, much more is needed to slash emissions and rebuild trust in a year of unprecedented weather extremes felt across the globe, including here in Australia. The U.S. has an opportunity to lead decisively in upcoming climate negotiations, and today we’re here to say: we stand ready to back you as you act on climate change.
