Inspiring and empowering the next generation

About us

Wyndham Tech School is a STEM Centre of Excellence where industry, education and community collaborate to shape the future. We ignite curiosity, engagement, and collaboration through an industry-driven curriculum and hands-on exploration of advanced technologies. Our role is to support our partner schools in providing secondary students with the skills they need to flourish in careers of the future. We act as a hub to engage students and the community in project-based activities using technology and processes inspired by our local industry, including Health, Transport and Logistics, Professional Services, Agriculture, Building and Construction. We offer programs, projects and spaces that integrate technology across all subjects, and drive the use of problem-solving, design-thinking and project management. We offer all partner schools across Wyndham and Hobsons Bay free and inclusive access to programs, teacher professional development, industry and community events.

Helping the C-Suite see around corners

Yesterday, David Cocks and I went on a (literal) school trip, with a tour of Wyndham Tech School with Sam Nikolsky. The facilities are amazing, and it’s pretty incredible what impact a small team of ten are having on thousands of kids and teachers around Hobson’s Bay and Wyndham. It’s also an outstanding example of; 🖇️ Not scaling 🖇️ 🖇️ Could the 42 schools in the catchment area all have been given a small pot of money to run their own programs, and get a few bits of equipment in their schools? Sure. But would that have had anywhere near the impact that having this purpose built, dedicated campus and specialist faculty? 🖇️ Ecosystem 🖇️ 🖇️ The school is part of Victoria University campus, meaning that VU students get to use the facilities. VU teaching students can come and get extra credentials around teaching the tech school programs. 🖇️ They partner with a range of tech companies, meaning that students get mentoring and exposure to a huge range of people, jobs, and career paths that they wouldn’t otherwise. And the tech companies get to (reasonably) input to the tech skills education of their future workforce. And this isn’t about just creating compliant little future tech drone workers. I loved that the programs and courses that the kids are doing are interdisciplinary and focused on a problem, not a ‘subject’. They layer on topics like ethics, communication, negotiation, cybersecurity, problem solving, data literacy, research, and collaboration as embedded part of the programs, rather than distinct ‘modules’. So yes, the kids have access to and learn with industrial grade software and hardware, but they’re ultimately learning the transferable fundamental skills that will set them up as the tech evolves. ➡️ Side note; I think that a lot more people / leaders / teams should be taking more ‘study tours’ like this to see what’s happening in the world. And you don’t need to (always) go to California to see what’s possible. Huge thanks to Sam for letting David and I come and nerd out for an hour / answering our endless questions. #FutureOfEducation #STEM #tech

The best learning happens when we collaborate and inspire each other 😍 That's why we hosted a Shared Learning Day with our allies from Ballarat Tech School and Geelong Tech School 🌟 More than just a meeting, it was an opportunity to exchange innovative ideas, share how we're using new tech with students, and inspire each other to go above and beyond 🚀 By working together, we’re not only improving programs for our own students, but also supporting tech education across Victoria's west 🦾 Thank you to our hosts, Victoria University, Federation University Australia and The Gordon for supporting us in empowering the next generation together! 🤝

Game dev beyond borders! 🎮 🌏 Our students from Bemin Secondary College teamed up with students from Hanoi Star School, Vietnam in our very first INTERNATIONAL program!✨ Together, they used Unreal Engine to design game worlds inspired by the United Nations Sustainability Goals. Through our 'Creating Worlds Together' program, students over 7,000 km apart learnt to navigate language barriers and integrate diverse cultural perspectives into their game design. This experience empowered them to develop teamwork, problem-solving and hybrid-work skills, equipping them for future careers in our globally connected world 🚀 “The students have shown their parents what they have learned and done in the sessions. And that has helped the parents have a positive view about Game Development being part of a curriculum, while it is quite a new concept for Vietnamese culture.” 💟 Huu Tram Anh Le It's incredible seeing the impact innovative education can have on the world! We're so proud of what these students have achieved together 🎉 See what else we've been up to in Term 3 with our latest report 👀 https://lnkd.in/gJwd58Vy

Thank you to the Western Region Digital Technology Community of Practice (CoP) at Victoria University’s Wyndham Tech School, located at the Werribee Campus. The Professional Learning event provided an excellent opportunity for STEM and Digital Technology educators to collaborate and share insights. We were privileged to hear from our industry partners, including Grok Academy and Wonde who offered valuable perspectives on current trends and practices in the field. Dr. J Andrew Welsman provided hands-on experience with state-of-the-art educational tools. We had the opportunity to explore Menti, an interactive presentation software, and BandLab for Education. These sessions focused on the practical application of technology and creating engaging podcasts. So much fun! The day concluded with an enriching micro-collaborative session. This valuable time allowed teachers to share ideas, exchange best practices, and leverage their collective knowledge. With Dr Lucy Cassar. #digitech #STEM #victeachers #teachercollaboration

Master Teacher in Residence (Science/English) at Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership • Outstanding Primary Teacher of the Year, 2019-Victorian Education Excellence Awards.

Our Science Discipline Day 3 at the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership with Lorena Pellone-Gismondi, was outstanding! A warm thank you to our amazing TEP 24 Science teachers, who fully immersed themselves in the student experience by participating in investigations, case studies, experiments, role-playing, prototyping and detective work. They approached the Curiosity and Creative Thinking day with enthusiasm, laughter, and an open mind. We explored gamification and AI tools to enhance student engagement in science with Ranjot Kaur and J Andrew Welsman from Wyndham Tech School. Following that, Alex Louie and Maria James from the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority guided us through the new Science and Capabilities curriculum, and we concluded the day with Thomas Barnes from Victorian Space Science Education Centre VSSEC, who led us in exploring project-based learning. Many thanks to the Teaching Excellence Division team members for all their much needed support throughout the day!
