We want to ensure local parks and community spaces stay green while saving our precious drinking water.🚰 ♻️ A new recycled water main in Croydon marks a significant milestone as one of Australia’s first recycled water offset pilots. The Maroondah community will benefit from the 300m water main, which will deliver high quality recycled water to green spaces, including the Barngeong Reserve sporting oval. It’s expected to save the council approximately 3 million litres of drinking water each year. Another example of how we're #AcceleratingAction and highlighting the vital role water plays in the climate crisis. Local groups are the backbone of our community and we're proud to facilitate projects that create meaningful impact. 🏘️ That's why we've been giving back to the #community by transforming a local garden at Mitcham Community House in Melbourne's east. 🌱 Nearly 40 hard-working Yarra Valley Water staff volunteers joined forces to improve the communal area and establish a habitat for local wildlife. itcham Community House is among 14 recipients of our #CommunityGrants program, which funds projects aimed at #WaterConservation, #Habitat improvement, and community #education. We're commitment to helping communities thrive. Part of this includes a day of #volunteer leave for our staff, so they can give back to communities that bring us together. You’ve heard of the Pantheon of Rome, but have you seen these architectural marvels? This is the site of the Craigieburn Sewage Transfer Hub. Flash floods and major storms can place pressure on our sewer system. Each tank holds up to 15 million litres of sewage, helping us manage wastewater safely and efficiently to protect your health and the environment. As demand increases so does our investment into innovative and cost-effective solutions to defer construction of a large sewer. When complete, the Craigieburn Sewage Transfer Hub will be the largest sewage storage facility in Australia and will: ✅ Reduce the likelihood of spills into waterways during large storms ✅ Improve the efficiency of the network ✅ Accommodate for population growth Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gkDg2f35 #Sewage #Sewerage #Floods #Infrastructure #Construction #CivilEngineering

We’ve laid the foundations for a greener future. 🏗️ Construction of our Lilydale food waste to energy facility is off to a great start and when complete will: 🥑 Divert organic waste from landfill ⚡ Produce renewable energy 😶🌫️ Reduce emissions to meet net zero carbon targets We’ve laid the foundations, planted over 1,600 trees and started to build digester tanks – that’s where the magic happens! They process commercial food waste into renewable energy using a natural process called ‘anaerobic digestion’, which is similar to the way a human body breaks down food – we don’t use incineration or gasifiers to process the waste. This is our second food waste to energy facility, our first has been successfully operating in Wollert since 2017. Since then, the award-winning Wollert facility has processed 178,000 tonnes of food waste and produced approximately 35,000 MWh of renewable electricity.
