Merri Creek is getting a little more love.🌿💚 Thanks to our Community Grants program, the amazing volunteers at Friends of Merri Creek are about to give this much-loved waterway a boost. Community members are restoring habitats by: 🌿 Planting over 3,000 native grasses, shrubs and trees. 🐦⬛ Creating safe spaces for birds, insects, and native plants to thrive. And they’ll be hosting more events, so more people can roll up their sleeves and help protect this special creek. 💪 #MerriCreek is a part of our #community, and we’re honoured to support the volunteers who dedicate their time to make it a healthier, more vibrant place for everyone. Let’s keep the creek beautiful for the future, together. 🌊 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gBdsq4jH #Water #CommunityGrants #HelpingCommunitiesThrive #HabitatRestoration #Volunteer #Volunteering #Lakes #Streams #Rivers

Did you know toilet paper is designed to break down in the sewer?🧻 Once flushed, it dissolves into tiny fibers as it travels through the sewer, eventually arriving at our treatment plant as slushy brown water. But what happens when you flush the wrong things down the toilet? This week, on Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Science’s ‘How Things Work’, our very own Dr Bronwyn Herron joins Dr Karl to explain why it's so important to stick to flushing only the 3Ps. Pee 🚽 Poo 💩 Paper 🧻 Watch here: 👀 👉 https://lnkd.in/gDJqqJEP Flushing the wrong things can block the system, harm the environment and lead to costly repairs. When in doubt, throw it out. Know what to flush. *Flushable wet wipe products must comply with the Flushable Products Standard (AS/NZS 5328:2022)

Good news, Melbourne – water storage levels are expected to remain secure for the year ahead, with water restrictions not expected in the coming 12 months. But it’s up to all of us to make every drop count. 📈 Melbourne’s population grew by 140,000 last year, and we’ll need more water than what flows into our dams to keep up with demand. 💧 Melburnians used more water on average this year, with daily usage rising to 163 litres per person, up from 161 litres last year. 🥵 Storage levels can drop quickly if we experience dry spells. Together with Greater Western Water, Melbourne Water, and South East Water, we’ve been tracking Greater Melbourne’s water levels, usage and future needs. Learn more https://lnkd.in/grZS7wv2

With the help of our #CommunityGrants, a gloomy outdoor space will be tranformed into an edible garden oasis for young families experiencing vulnerability and disadvantage. 🌱 The Lighthouse Foundation - an organisation supporting young people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness - will install a 2500-litre rainwater tank as part of a project to create a sustainable and therapeutic garden for young parents and their children at The Lighthouse home in Heathmont. The support means the garden could be maintained with water in an environmentally responsible way, while providing a safe space for the home's residents. We’re proud to stand with over 40 businesses across Australia as part of the Respect and Protect initiative, to help stop financial abuse. We know that some abusers misuse essential services to threaten victim-survivors or accrue debts in their name. We’re doubling down to ensure that doesn’t happen. Our commitment is clear: 🟠 Zero tolerance: We will not allow our processes, practices, or services to be used to perpetrate abuse. 🟠 Taking action: If we detect abuse involving water services or accounts, we will act to stop it and prevent it from recurring. 🟠 Strengthening our support: We’re always working to make our policies, systems, training, and support better for both staff and customers. This isn’t new for us—it’s part of our ongoing commitment to address family violence. Joining Respect and Protect reflects our strengthened approach and zero-tolerance stance. During the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, we’re reminded of the urgency: 🔸 More than 1 in 3 women in Australia experience men’s violence. 🔸 Every 10 days, a woman is killed by a man she knows. We all have a role in breaking this cycle. Let’s act together to stop family violence and financial abuse. 💜 Learn more about our pledge to respect and protect 👉 https://lnkd.in/gE3dsm8v #RespectAndProtect #16DaysOfActivism #FamilyViolenceResponse
