STANDING UP FOR YOUNG MINDS.

About us

Our vision is that every child and young person is educated and empowered to effectively deal with mental health issues. Our mission is to provide innovative school-based programs for children and young people that develop their understanding of mental health issues and awareness of mental health services. The zero2hero team envisions a world where mental illness is dealt with openly and treated as a normal part of everyday life. zero2hero is a WA-based not-for-profit organisation with a mission to address mental health problems openly among younger people. zero2hero believe that through open communication, mental health problems can be effectively dealt with and suicide can be prevented. Through specialised events the zero2hero team help create supportive networks that encourage speaking out about mental health. zero2hero’s events such as ‘zero2hero day’ and ‘Camp Hero – Youth Leadership Camps’ equip school-aged children and teenagers with the skills to speak up when they are struggling and the confidence to stand up and support their friends when they may be experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, bullying, self-harm or suicidal thoughts. Today and any day, we know the importance of asking someone if they're OK. But do we really know where to go when the answer is NO? Follow these simple steps and remember to L E A D by example, when supporting someone who tells you they are not OK: L-ISTEN 👂 Do - listen intently to what they're saying Don't - interrupt or rush them. E-NCOURAGE 🆗 Do - encourage them to see it will be okay. Reassure that help can be found Don't - seem judgemental, panicked or negative in your response. A-CTION ✅ Do - take action Don't - Try not to try to solve their problem/s. You aren't expected to have all the answers. Ensure they are connected with a mental health resource (visit our website via the link in bio for a range of mental health support services - https://loom.ly/7pxE8dg) D-EBRIEF ↩️ Do - remember to follow up and debrief, check in and see how they're doing. Plus, seek help for yourself during this process. Supporting someone through a mental health challenge and/or suicidal thoughts can take a toll on the support person. Don't - do nothing. Please L E A D your friend to safety, it could help save their life 🤍 #RUOKDAY #RUOKANYDAY Lifeline 13 11 14

“Losing someone to suicide is a grief unlike any other grief I have ever experienced. The day I lost someone I loved and cared about to suicide I was devastated, we were devastated. In the months that followed it was a series of chaos and heartbreak. Over 300 people filled his funeral sharing love and memories. To this day, I still don’t think he knew just how loved he was… One of the things that struck me was the personal guilt and blame that came with suicide. How?? Did I miss the warning signs… Why?? Did he do that… Two questions that plagued me and I became determined to answer. I soon discovered that tragically our family were just 1 of 9 other families that lost someone they loved to suicide that day. A number that I still can’t come to terms with! The most tragic part in all of this is that suicide is (in most cases) preventable… The one thing I wish the family and friends that I have lost to suicide knew was I CARE! WE CARE! We want you to tell us when and if you need help, and when we ask you how you are, please share your truth… How you feel matters! If you are one of the thousands of Australians struggling with your mental health and/or contemplating suicide tonight, please reach out. Some amazing suicide support resources are below” Ash, CEO zero2hero. THEY DID IT! A huge congratulations all of our incredible trekkers who batted sun, wind, rain and hail to make it to finish line at Cape Naturaliste on Friday afternoon! These heroes have helped to raise over $68,000 so far that will go towards zero2hero's youth programs. Thank you so much trekkers, we hope you enjoyed your experience! ❤️

Thanks to support from Aurizon Community Fund, our heroic facilitators Annabel and Stu were able to impact +1,100 students across Geraldton and Northampton as part of our Midwest Roadshow last week. Across 23 workshops in 6 schools within the region, our programs set out to educate and empower students to positively manage their mental health. A Year 11 from Geraldton Senior High School said: “I learnt that even though someone might be going through a lot in the moment, they may say ‘everything is fine’ so people don’t worry about them’. We need to check in on them anyway.”   Facilitator Stu from zero2hero said: "Our Geraldton roadshow was one of our most successful yet. While all of our sessions proved rewarding the standout for me was our leadership and core values workshop with Nagel College. There we not only got to speak to a group of 200 incredibly engaged students about mental health but also had overwhelmingly positive engagement with students following the session, asking how to better become mental health ambassadors and leaders in the community.”   Thank you to Aurizon for you supporting these amazing programs that impact schools within the Midwest.

We are so proud to share we’ve been selected as a grant recipient of the Kindness in Community Fund, which was created by Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation and made global with support from Cotton On Foundation to address the evolving mental health and wellbeing needs of young people. This generosity will help us to deliver essential education to schools in the Perth Metro through our Hero High workshops that aim to empower young people to positively manage their own mental health. We’re so thankful for this fund that will support us on our mission to prevent suicide in Australia 💜 @btwfoundation, @cottonon, @cottononfoundation
