Today marks 30 years since the Porgera Gold Mine disaster in Papua New Guinea. Interim Commissioner for Resources Safety and Health Andrew Clough this week paid tribute to the 11 colleagues that were killed in the Porgera Gold Mine explosion that occurred 30 years ago in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. On 2 August 1994, the Dyno Wesfarmers Limited explosive manufacturing facility at the Porgera Gold Mine was totally destroyed by two explosions. Andrew was working on site at the time of the incident. Andrew yesterday attended a ceremony, hosted by Dyno Nobel, at Manly Harbour Boat Club to mark 30 years since the accident and spoke of the need to learn the lessons from major incidents to ensure similar disasters were not repeated in the future.
