The QRC has outlined four priorities for government to keep the resources sector strong. We know that when Queensland's resources sector is strong, Queensland and its communities are strong. Keeping Queensland competitive is a priority critical to protecting and growing jobs. With the right policy settings we can attract and retain investment in the resources sector that provides economic stability for our state. A competitive Queensland can support all industries, businesses and everyday Queenslanders to thrive. Reasons the government should action this priority are simple. Congratulations Stanmore Resources Limited on securing an investment that will accelerate the industry's role in decarbonisation. The Low Emissions Investment Partnership (LEIP) will support the development of a new 20MW gas to electricity power station at the South Walker Creek open cut coal mine. Janette Hewson said "this is a great example of innovation across the sector - from coal mining to gas supply - that ensures we all play a role in a lower emissions future." The LEIP program is still accepting Expressions of Interest and we encourage members to consider the program for future opportunities. https://lnkd.in/g7nDrfsj #Stanmore #QRC #Queensland #Qld #Government #LEIP
Today we are pleased to announce Stanmore has entered into an agreement with the Queensland Government for funding toward a new gas to electricity power plant at our South Walker Creek Mine. With support through Queensland Treasury’s Low Emissions Investment Partnerships program, the exciting project aims to reduce future fugitive mine emissions through the capture of methane and transform it into electricity, to provide an ongoing long-term self-sufficient source of power for the mine. Construction is expected to complete by 2027. Find out more on our website: https://lnkd.in/g9cuNrcK. #queenslandresources #mining #queenslandgovernment

Today Townsville was the host of The Courier-Mail Bush Summit for Queensland. QRC’s CEO Janette Hewson joined a panel discussion, taking the opportunity to highlight the pivotal role the resources sector plays in supporting and advancing regional Queensland. There’s great potential across all Queensland commodities to continue driving jobs and economic opportunities. That includes traditional commodities like coal, gas and minerals and the emerging critical minerals sector in the Northwest Minerals Province, to meet global demand for new energy storage technologies in support of the energy transition. To capitalise on these opportunities, it’s essential governments get the right policy setting to attract investment, and ensure the protection and growth of jobs within the sector. Regional Queensland is the powerhouse of our state’s economy and deserves a fairer share of investment in infrastructure and essential services. The resources sector is committed to working collaboratively with governments and communities to drive sustainable economic growth and ensure a prosperous future for all Queenslanders. #QRC #Queensland #Qld #Townsville #Resources

What a great day to celebrate a phenomenal group of young women looking to join the resources sector! Over the past 6 months, 20 year 12 students from 16 schools across Queensland have embraced the role as a mentee in 2024 QMEA/WIMARQ Girls in Resources Leadership Skills (GIRLS) Mentoring Program. The program offers the students an opportunity to connect with a mentor from the Queensland mining and energy sector, under the guidance of program partner, Metisphere. A big thank you to our volunteer mentors who are passionate about supporting a new generation of women into a great career in the resources sector. Programs like this couldn’t happen with our generous sponsors - BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA), ConocoPhillips, Jellinbah Mining, Rio Tinto, Thiess, Whitehaven Coal, Coronado Global Resources Inc., Fitzroy Mining Operations and Idemitsu Australia Pty Ltd.! Congratulations to QRC Member, Arrow Energy on this major announcement. The expansion of the Surat Gas Project will create hundreds of new jobs and generate new economic opportunities for this region of Queensland. It follows extensive consultation with local landowners and communities. Importantly, the extra gas the expansion delivers will provide a needed boost to Australia’s domestic supply. Queensland gas producers continue to do the heavy lifting to keep the power running in businesses and homes across our east coast.
